You should try the F.E.A.R. demo. Mostly quieter than doom, but managed to be a hell of alot creepier, just hearing it for about 30 seconds near the end made my wife have to leave the room. I personally can't wait for the full version.
I'll definately have to try it then. I guess I have a thing for very creepy games since System Shock 2 which was not only creepy but one of the best games ever!
I had a friend of mine try Doom 3 when it came out in my compuiter room with 7.1 speakers and the lights turned off. He had never tried it or followed it before release so he expected something like Quake and was excited to test it. He lasted about 3 minutes before leaving the room and having to turn the lights back on. Nothing like a grown man admitting a game creeped the living crap out of him :D

Just finished Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Doom3 is next
IS the latest SC less linear than the other two...Its fun after you play it once not much good after that.
Try to beat the game without touching or injuring anyone. (no point but near impossible)

lol
A buddy of mine scares real easy, he told me that he stopped playing when the first Imp stuck its arm through a door at him. I actually thought that was kind of an achievment for him. I want to get him to try F.E.A.R but I think the opening intro would be too much for him.

Already did that:D In CT the game is a bit better designed so passing without alerting or injuring anyone is a lot more practical to shooting your way through in many parts. In the first two it was near impossible and pointless.
SC Chaos Theory improves greatly. The missions now have much more flexibility and paths to accomplish them. The missions are somewhat more interlinked now. The have primary objectives, secondary objectives, and opportunity objectives. You only need to accomplish the primary ones to pass but missing some of the others changes the objectives to some degree on following missions. The missions now have success rating as well depending on how well you performed. It doesn't really change the game but makes it more fun to be more creative on how you go about the mission. There's a lot more enviromental interaction with some cool new moves to use with them as well. CT is a very significant improvement over the other two in terms of gameplay and graphics.
Yeah the Half Life one is called The Aftermath and you'll play as the Alex chick. Hadn't heard about the Splinter Cell one though. Hope they don't mess it up.
Well its done. I saw the movie yesterday. Movies here premiere on Thursdays instead of Friday so I get to see them a day before everyone else :D
For a video game based movie it wasn't that bad at all. Pretty entertaining action flick. If you enjoyed Doom 3 then you'll definately like the movie. Its definately made for the fans of the game. It was quite faithfull to the game and really did an amazing job at keeping the feel of walking around the poorly lit corridors and flickering labs with nasties creeping around the place. The strory was changed around a fair bit but overall the main elements are there.
Now, the first person view scene was absolutely BADASS. It was worth watching just for that. I wish it had run longer. Its one of those rare movie scenes where the whole crowd in the theatre started cheering as soon as it started.
Oh and the BFG is there an yes it was refered to it by its proper name loud and clear :D

Pretty fair review. The main flaw I find in that review is that they complain too much about the story. Uhm, its a movie from a game about shooting stuff up and making a big mess in dark places. Story? I was a lot more upset after the crappy matrix sequels than this one and thats good enough for me :D

We discussed this on IRC recently, but because none of you were there, you missed it. ;)
Anyway, I see no reason to expect a plot from a doom movie. In fact, adding a plot would possibly *detract* from the potential awesomeness of a braindead blow 'em up romp through dark corridors.
And that is a reasonable position, but why the hell is anyone calling this a good movie? Ok, so a lot of you seem to like it. Just don't confuse that with it being good.
I thought the Transporter was the feel good comedy of the season. I had fun. Never, ever, did I make the unconscionable mistake of saying it was actually good.
If the movie meets its goals and proves to be amusing, shocking, random, or otherwise good in some way, I see no reason not to call it a good movie.
It's not a *great* movie by any means, but just because it's got no plot doesn't mean it's inherently bad. You certainly wouldn't lump it along side Lord of the Rings or anything of that sort, but among mindless action flicks, it'd be fine.
I can say it was a good movie. Its not a great movie of course. My criteria for good is that it keeps me entertained and I don't feel like getting up and walking out of the theatre. Thats something I've done more and more in recent history. Most notably Ali and Alexander which I literally got up and left halfway through the movie because they were so awfully dragged out and painfully boring. I also fell asleep during both Matrix sequels because they were so awful. With the quality of movies in recent years this isn't that bad.
I do think keeping with the story line of the game would have been a bit better but its no big deal. The story line in the game is pretty decent but nothing spectacularly better than what they made for the movie. I've got to give them credit for keeping the feel of the movie so close to the game which is really what it deserved and that was incredibly well done. They didn't butcher it into something that barely resembles Doom.
The one thing I noticed is that the movie had relatively little in the way of special effects and CGI. It was obviously a fairly small budget movie. The monsters were all costumes and prosthetics. I think what this movie needed more than a story was a huge budget. I would have much rather seen rooms filled with dozens of imps lurching fireballs at you Doom 2 style than a good storyline :D

Its one of the best games I've played in a while.

It was ok but its not the breakthrough we need to make a video game respectable to everyone else.
Funny though it was!
BIG FUCKIN GUN!
