I have to disagree with Star Trek being on that list...
While it certainly may have a cult following of certain aspects, it's far too mainstream. Same goes for Buffy (though angel can stay but it's pushing the limits) and possibly even SG-1 due to its vast syndication success. And just maybe the X-Files could be classified the same.

those were my exact thoughts upon seeing this list, very few of those shows are "Cult" shows, most are mainstream television.

[B]The thing is, B5 is not mainstream, really. Good shows rarely make it onto the top of such lists, it's always the way. Star Trek maybe a load of rubbish on occaison, but it's very easy to just sit and watch for the average viewer. It's the sort of thing you have some dinner while watching, just "relaxing TV". B5 and some other shows, are very complicated shows and not so easy to watch lightly. [/B][/QUOTE]
thats partly because B5 was really a space soap opera rather than a straight TV series,. It was very hard to come in half way through, and know what was going on without having seen the rest of the series, you had to invest a lot of time into the show, which is IMHO what made it great, as i am a fan of Epic storytelling (LOTR, B5, Les Miserables, The whole harry potter series, The Stand, and even Battlefield Earth, the book, not the movie) these are all movies/books/shows where the characters and events end up being so far removed from how they started, thats what i love about them, but thats what turns some people off to them, they want jaunty quick entertainment, not something they need to invest time and emotion into.
The reward to that type of epic adventure, is you really get in tune with the characters, you know where they started, where they've been and for the most part, where they are going, which makes the whole universe of that story more real, more vibrant. but also makes it more difficult for the casual reader/watcher to get into.
