The next month or two will be booked solid with driving instruction and college orientation... I'd need a course schedule before I could give a definite answer.
As I'm likely to be vanishing for college-region in this coming week, it seems like now may be the only time to get this done, so you may have to sit it out, Exile. Of course, if this is successful, future meets could be planned around a larger region.
I'm still having a bit of trouble coming up with any reasonable potential activities. Bowling, maybe? Bowling and Pizza? I mean, if you go out in almost any direction, either of them can be had on LI. the weather's been sucking lately (though, today is freaking beautiful!) so things like the typical mini-golf are less preferrable.

The ferry is also $39 each way for cars (and the driver) or maybe $18-20 total for a round trip on foot. Yeah, I go on the New London to Orient Point trip four times a year for business on the western third of Long Island. BTW...the Long Island Expressway is much worse than I-95. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Bah. the LIE isn't that bad. ;) (Well, yes it is :p)
Never use the LIE when you can. It's northern state or bust!
@Exile if you wanna go the train route try Amtrakkind of a long ride though but I could meet you at Penn & we could head out from there to PT Washington/Cold Spring Harbor.
Im aiming for Tuesday lets be bold about this before it disintegrates into a theory! Bowling is cool but I suck so don't expect much from me. If we go to Strike! I know a girl there well sorta.
PSI: And then there was the permaconstruction state it was in for the past year. :D
So seriously, if everyone here sucks at bowing (except for me...I suck on-and-off at it), what else could be done? Movies and pizza? I don't know of any arcades anymore, so that ruins that sort of fun. Also, what day? Tuesday seems to be the assumed day of choice here, but...anybody have any objections to that?
OMGWTFBBQ! CSH = Cold Spring Harbor. It's one of the stops on the Huntington/Port Jefferson branch of the LIRR. Cableguy suggested it as a potential place to manifest yourselves, and I agre with it. Also, any chance you could get on AIM or IRC? 'tis a lot more convenient than this pseudo-real time chat we've been having ;)
I'd be up for a chat, but I work about 60h a week and will be doing so until school starts back up (and either I decide to join up for figure out a way to stay in school or just go on a walkabout), so possibly tomorrow evening, EST?
Also, maybe this is just crazy, but wouldn't it make sense to gather on something a little more accessible than an island? I like, maybe, a continent? They are pretty big you know.
The reason for the island is that at least three people can gather there reasonably, while driving out almost anywhere else is either too expensive or too far to make such a spontaneous trip reasonable. With better planning, perhaps a better event could be realized that would involve more than just a small cluster of folks.
Would it be at all possible to gather in NYC, possibly mainland? It'd definitely be more affordable for me, and money's tight (I realize I'm not the only one for whom this is true).
Due to the abrupt nature of this spontaneous gathering...it's not terribly likely for me to be able to make it into the city. However, if we could plan about two weeks ahead...this could be made to happen there. I know there's tons more stuff to do out in the city, so perhaps this first event could function as a testbed of sorts? I'd be very interested in a future NYC gathering, but it would not be enough fun without at least five (maybe six) people.
thanks to PSI-KILLER appearing in IRC...we had talked about some potential stuff to do. Basically...We discovered that LI is boring. However, there are a few possibilities:
1) We could meet somewhere convenient, like huntington or CSH, and then head off to the Country Fair Park in Medford, play some mini-golf, race go-karts, etc just generally do something amusing.
2) Before or after this trip to medford, we could do some bar/restaurant hopping in Huntington. There's no shortage of places to eat and drink, so this is certainly an interesting option. It's also relatively close to everything else and it's my home territory, so I'm somewhat familiar with the various firms there. Note that there are also other places like restaurant square on LI, but most are slightly less convenient in terms of the sheer proximity of so many sources of great food.
3) An alternative to 1...Jillian's. It's expensive as hell, but it's a pretty large arcade and it's lots of fun. They serve decent food, but I'd suggest heading back to one of the major restaurant regions for dinner of some sort. Or perhaps start with lunch/dinner and head to Jillian's?
4) There was a mention of laser tag as a potential source of amusement...and it may very well be viable, but I'll have to make sure the local Q-Zar has support for the adult-sized people like us. Last time I was there, they did not, but it looks like they've since remodelled. Edit: Ok, it seems like they're likely to be friendly to us adult-sized people. this is an open option now. :D
This would likely be tuesday, as I've just been notified that I need to be at work monday to fix things that keep breaking.

The eastern third of Long Island tends to be expensive enough as it is, with the vineyards and multi-million dollar houses.

Lets not even start on that one ;) Hoooowee, are those places overpriced.
Update: Q-Zar is the most convenient for both Psi-Killer and I...and I'm sure that Cable Guy would be neither one way or the other as he'd be bumming a ride off of me.

Bar hopping's not my thing; I'm too young to get in them, and I don't drink anyway. Jillian's sounds way out of my budget; other things may be as well, though, so don't count it out on my account.
Well you can always drink water heh. Infact when your in the city with the insane heatwave bars are sometimes the only source when your broke.
No problems with any of that though. I've always wanted to go to every diner in Nassau to see if there are any differences really. I really can't go on a huge spending spree though so lets not overdue it. :D
If we are planning two weeks from now then the situation might be different I might actually have a job by then & yall could hang out at my place in the city. Plus theres the Museum of Natural Science which I haven't been to in a few years anyway. We could check out the big library on 42nd. And before it closes CJBG the last of the original punk rock venues. :D
Should decide this by tommorow otherwise Andy will miss his train...
@Exile why not come down with Mej & Evan?
Also anyone up for paintballing? We could make a jump to Corum...Oh & I know a girl out there...heh
Personally, I'd definitely be up for two weeks from now, and chilling at your place is more my kind of thing that amusement parks in Long Island (also in general).
Also, I like big libraries!
Also also, I think I'd like paintball, but I've never done it.

Nor is it mine. I rarely find myself drinking more than water. :D But some bars out here have really good food at cheap prices. As for the Jillian's bit, it's likely way over mine, too. It's very easy to spend $100 there on almost nothing, but one can show self-restraint :D However, this is where Q-Zar comes in. Laser Tag is a pretty neat thing. Just a nice casual way of shooting each other without the whole pain thing :D
I would most definetely be interested in laser tag.

I'm good for laser tag and much dinnerness tomorrow. I can provide rides as needed. For what it's worth, I think there may not be enough value to spending a couple of hours on a train just for this, but if you want to come along, Exile, feel free to. :D PM, IM, or bug me some other way if you want to work out some details.

If anybody has any suggestions..please make 'em now.
