Hubble may be dying, but it's perfectly servicable.
The ISS, on the other hand, is now dead, I think. It shouldn't be dead, but with the shuttles grounded again it's as good as dead. The next one needs to be designed with heavy lift boosters in mind instead of needing the shuttle to get the stuff up there.
Biggles,
After so many years I must disagree. The ISS is to be forever manned. No matter how negligent the US space program has been, the Russians have the resources and Will to keep it alive.

The problem is that without the shuttles, it's just about unmaintainable. Sure, supplies can be sent up, but replacement parts plus the new parts can't because they were designed with the shuttle's cargo hold in mind.
What is needed to recitify this is a heavy lift booster that can handle parts that were designed to go in a shuttle's cargo bay.
Also Mambo ~ your estimate of 150 to 250 lbs of weight saving sounds on the low side:

I know it wasn't 6,000lbs of paint ~ but it was certainly far more than my body weight that they saved.

Still alot of stuff to go up - not all core modules, but alot of support equipment.
