happy birthday! and may i recommend a bottle of red wine
Interesting choice, though I've never heard of that brand myself...
Ernest & Julio Gallo Winery has some great red wines too in their product line, but I don't really know which one could fit for a beginner... maybe the Sierra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon?
Btw personally I don't understand people who run to a liquor store when they reach legal age... or should I quote Mr. T: I pity the fool!

me neither......we were already providing the local pub with a brisk trade before we reached the legal age;)

Wow... so the "local" wines here get as far around the world as Finland eh?
:)

Neither do I. I turned 21 this past May and as far I can tell, nothing much has changed. Booze is still plentiful, but I don't find myself liking it any more as a beverage than I did before I was above the magical age of being able to rent a car...
heh, everyone expected me to get drunk..
Nope. I just had a single glass of White Zinfindel. ;)
Also got a watch (Needed one)
some slacks (Again, needed them)
Wine Glasses (YAY!)
Wine bottle opener
Wine bottle cap to keep the freshness
bottle of White Zinfindel (muaha)
and Gas Money for the trip. :D
and the best part...
Home made Rice Pilof with Shrimp Scampie, with a home made Yellow cake and home made Chocolate Angle Food cake.
So yea, I did good.

ah! the most important piece of equipment on the planet, after the beer bottle opener anyway:D

We get 27 different Californian red wines including products from Beringer, Bonterra, Carlo Rossi, Corbett Canyon, Delicato Family, Fetzer, Foxhorn, Gallo, Glenn Ellen, Hogue, Opus One, Paul Masson, Rancho Zabaco, Stonehedge, Sutter, Talus Woodbridge and Turning Leaf.
And no, I haven't tasted all of those wines...

Owned. :D
Canadian Pinot Noir is exquisite, but any Merlot is good enough for me; as long as it's South American or Australian. (I find many French reds to be quite tarte.)
Happy Birthday A2597, have a good 'un! :)

Morden
Thanks guys!

all red is nice! i just cant drink white wine, gives me a headache...even champagne. my favourite red is a south astralian: wolf blass cabernet sauvignon yellow label. very nice, but its £9 a bottle or something like that.
i cant really comment on international wines since i rarely drink wine and if i do i usually end up with standard supermarket wines that do not taste special. a recommendation for real good white wine (if you ever come to austria) is a "gelber muskateller", about the fruitiest and best tasting wine i had so far
whisky on the other hand.. :D
For conventional drinking, nothing beats a flavoursome English bitter. Sharpe's Doombar is a particular favorite.

Morden
never had that one. i personally prefer ales like black sheep, 80 shilling and theakstons old perculiar. tho i am rather partial to a Sol or Corona beer with some lime
Never tried Black Sheep. Bombadier is extremely nice, as is Spitfire. Goliath Ale from the Wychwood Brewery isn't bad either. :)

Morden
Actually, many of the Missouri wines follow in the German wine traditions since the area in the bluffs over the Missouri river was settled by many German immigrants the 1830s to 1860s.

just ate out, nice place, had a glass of White Zinfindel. Now, I've had a fair amount of White wines in my day, but this was the first time a single glass gave me a buzz. Not drunk, not loopy, not tipsy, just a buzz...that usually takes at least two glasses...
guess they have some slightly stronger stuff there! :D
And Biggles, lots of kinds of Alcohol...myself, I HATE the hard varieties, and really dislike beer, yet most wines...Yum! Champaign, BETTER! Things like Smirnoff Ice, thats good too! :D

The hard spirits are bad only if you go cheap, the better quality whiskies, scotches, etc are very drinkable. If you're not into spirits, but would like to get a taste, start with a port wine or a good quality brandy. From their work your way to a nice aperteif (sp?) and then to one of the lighter scotches, I would recommend The Glenlivet. Its a good scotch for those who aren't into the heavy stuff, nice light fruity flavor.
