Gotta say, I'm really liking SG-1. I haven't regularly watched it since about season five at the latest, so the change of cast really helped me to get back into it. Mitchell is no O'Neill, but he's hard to dislike. I'll be sold if they keep Claudia Black as a regular character. :D

Several places are advertising the "UK" version of the miniseries on DVD. Anyone know how this differs from what was shown in the states?
UK version of Season 1, actually. Best Buy offers it, converted to work with US TVs.
The theme music is different, and there aren't as many extras.
The US Season 1 DVD version will come out in September, will come with the miniseries, more commentaries and extras, probably the US version of the theme (though, from what I heard, "The Hand of God" won't have it's varient theme, much to my disappointment), and will cost ten dollars less.
On the other hand, the Best Buy UK package has a bonus disc with special features promoting Serenity, the Firefly movie.
The original theme for season 1 was supposed to be the Sanskrit vocals along with the Tyco drums. This version was used in the UK. Just before Battlestar Galactica was set to premiere in the U.S., Bonnie Hammer (head of Sci Fi) pulled the vocals and used the theme with just the drums.
Before season 2, Edward James Olmos pushed for the original theme song. He thought the translation of the mantra was appropriate for the show. They added back in the vocals, but dropped the Tyco drums (not sure why).
Here’s the correct translation of the Gayatri Mantra from the Tibetan Book of the Dead:
O Lord, You are the protector of life and of breath, dispeller of miseries and bestower of happiness. You are the creator and the most acceptable intelligence, possessing eternal qualities. May Your qualities and Your inspiration pass to us.
Here’s the mantra:
OM BHUR BHUVAH SWAH
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHIMAHI
DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT
OM
And, while I prefer the U.S. version of the theme, the only part of the UK version that I can't stand is that odd distortion effect in the first few seconds.
Personally, I felt the US Version fit the series' mood better, rather than the UK version. The UK one felt too soft, too peaceful and failed to ive me a feel of uniting.
ShadowDancerWhen I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie."London, UK
really? i thought it was perfect for it. yes its a bit soft maybe, but its got that haunting quality to it that captures the sense of loss that they feel quite well
RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
I miss the "coming up" montage after the credits... *sigh*
BTW, anybody listenes to RDM's Podcasts?
In the one for 201 he warns about spoilers, so i stopped it right there and haven't listened to them. Since were now 4 episodes in the season, i'm wondering if it's safe to listen to them?

Don't worry, there's still about 100 known copies of her left. Although with BSG boomer dead, unless her conciosness was somehow succesfully uploaded somewhere that particular character is dead.

I liked the US version better as well. If i'd never seen the show I'd say the UK version sounded better but the intense tribal drum beat goes much better with the shows constant intensity which never slows down.
Did anyone see the last episode, 207? Did anyone notice the doctor actually seems to have let out a an "Oh F*ck" instead of an "Oh Frak" when he was scanning Baltar?
Oh and that first scene with #6 naked on the chair. Holy hotness!!! I need to see the rebroadcast tonight just to catch that scene again :P

Great episode though, really loved the stonehenge-ish scene.
Have you noticed how the music is personalized in BSG? Each character has their own kind of music, i.e. boomer, six, adama/son.
Interesting observation. I hadn't noticed that. I've noticed each episode itself does have its unique version of the soundtrack like B5 did.
So far this has been one of the best episodes of the season. A lot of resolution to several plot points. It should get even better very soon. Upcomming episode 210 spoiler!: Spoiler: Its now official that in the next few eps they will run into the Battlestar Pegasus and commander Cain will now be an admiral so she (Yes Cain is a female now) outranks Adama. That will throw a wrench into the current state of affairs.
Baltar is still one lucky guy. He has a smokin hot babe in his head. Its much better than this obnoxious Vorlon who speaks nothing but riddles. I've gotta see about evicting this Vorlon and renting my head to a cylon hottie instead. :D

Guards!
Just saw the new one Spoiler: where Boomer gets killed, and what's her face escapes, and Adama is back.
;)
Also, BSG rocks.
I'm a bit annoyed because I mised SG-1, SGA, and BSG again. *sigh* must acquire through some other means again...

I wonder if they will release the Atlantis soundtrack. I liked the music they used in The Siege.
