My trip to Europe

Howdy, everybody; 'tis been a while. So, as the subject line implies, I'm taking a trip to Europe. I'll be hitting a lot of places including London, Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin, Munich, Salzburg, Florence, Rome, Geneva, Marseille, and Paris. I'm looking for some info, the kind of thing I can't find on Wikipedia. Basically, I want to know the little things about these cities that make them interesting. And, given that firstones draws in people from all over, it this seemed like a good place to ask :).

More specifically, if you live in or near one of these cities, what are your favorite places to eat and why? And, cheese. For some reason I have a strange obsession to find the best cheese in each city I visit. I don't know why, but there you have it. Oh, and bread, too. Hmmm... what else... ah, yes, bars/pubs and cafes. Where do you like to go for coffee or a good brew? Also, I've been prodded into asking where are the best spots for a nice, romantic kiss?

Thoughts, anyone?

See ya,

Dave

  • AlaricAlaric Damn kids! Get off my island!
I think he's after a more personal opinion.
sadly I'm in no position to offer any since I don't live in any of those places myself.

Well I lived in London for about 4 months commulative.

Lived in Fulham, drinking age is great unfortunately i can't remember much more than that because I drank so much. :D

but really bleu cheese rocks theres this burger place to the right of the fulham tube station. Get the bleu cheese burger. You'll see it you'll pass by the book store, then the bars dont get off the sidewalk. ITs called Burger something anyway. Damn that shits good.

Otherwise ask worf n phi n all the other londoners

While in Rome (or even better Tuscany, like Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Bologna Etc.) make sure you go to a trattoria and order several courses of antipasto. You dont need to eat all of the courses (which I discovered after stuffing myself full on a 7 course dinner), but the best stuff is the Prosciutto (air-dried ham), the Parmezane cheese, the Mozzarella cheese, man they really know their food!!

    Good luck! :)

That's exactly right. I've read a bit of tourism info and it is/was very helpful, but I'm looking for more of a personal "the BEST restaurant is ... because ..." kind of thing; like what cabl3 guy wrote. :)

:). According to google, Fulham is south-west of London. I don't know if I'll get down that far but, if I do, I'll look for a burger joint next to the Fulham lube station. Thanks!

I have been to the Tuscan region before, actually, and I have fond memories of prosciutto e melone and caprese (mozzarella, tomato, olive oil, and fresh basil). Mmmmm. Good suggestions. :)

    Keep 'em coming.

Yes, btw, if you want to make eat something REALLY good, buy a whole circle of brie cheese, get fresh basil, and cover the circle with that, get a few small tomatoes (körsbärstomater in Swedish), cut them in half and put them on top. pour some honey on it, and put it in the oven at 225 degrees CENTIGRADE 8 - 10 minutes (until the cheese is soft). Sprinkle with salt.
    Tasted like cooked angel.
    yummy!

Go to the London Dungeon, Tower of London and the London Eye. In Geneva you should try out raclette and Cheese Fondue. Geneva itself isnt so interesting, but you should go to Grüyere and taste the "Grüyere Cheese" and visit the Alien / H.R. Giger museum. Also recommended is taking the train from Montreaux up to the top of the mountain (2000m). Also in Geneva you could visit the U.N and eat some swiss chocolat. (Remember to buy an Erdinger Weissbier...excellent german beer).

Anyway...going from city to city is really boring......I recommend going to Interlaken in Switzerland! Taking trains from city to city, and then walk the whole day between tourist attractions in each city is no fun....just really really hot....

Oh, and if you get a chance in Germany or Switzerland, eat some berries with chocolate fondue. Yummy.
