Dilgar Ships again.. Sector 14 guys?

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
So, what the deal with the different Dilgar ships from ITF and the Babylon 5 Wars game? Did you ever talk about cooperating during the creation of the game?

Well, I'm not speaking for the designers, but I'd assume they were most likely done at a point where Dilgar was just a name, and nobody probably knew the others were doing a Dilgar thing.

At the time we were working on the Dilgar ships and others, we were getting approval from NDEI, JMS, etc for each design and flesh out.

Had ITF successfully been released, we'd likely see the ITF dilgar as canon...

Such is the way of things...

NDEI lost all their content, WB never retained their copy appearantly, and so all that remains are the Luc Mayrand concept drawings...

and one copy of an Abbai gunboat that is in a safe place. ;)

Yeah, I know about the Abbai Gunboat.. :)

The reason Im asking is this.. Theres an age-old debate in the Babylon 5 miniature games community as to which Dilgar ship is the best looking / most canon etc.
I of course think the ITF Dilgar ship look alot cooler, since I like the sleek, deadly look, as opposed to the boxy, low tech look of the AOG Dilgar. Sadly Im in minority (read alone :().
Now, this has surfaced again since Mongoose are going to release the Dilgar pretty soon, and have not stated which ships they are going to use. The easier path being the AOG Dilgar since they have the moulds for those already.

Now, the general opinion in the miniature gams community is that AOG had their designs first, sent them to Sierra, and was completely ignored. Is this correct?

I remember there being a pretty big gap between the release of the ITF pictures of the Dilgar and the later AoG pictures.

Either way, some of the lines on the AoG minis do look like the ITF ships. Without knowing much about when they would've appeared in the game, its possible they were from the present day of an alternate timeline, many decades after our Dilgar went extinct, making the ITF ships far more advanced.

They could probably neatly solve the problem by releasing both, calling the ITF ships prototypes or something, and recommending ITF-style paint jobs.

I would have to answer with a cautious "I doubt it"...

Ken Prugh and others on the team would have known more on that, but I remember JMS/NDEI sending us the Luke Mayrand stuff and looking at our stuff, and approving it along the way, and never hearing about AOG until after the game was postponed and eventually terminated...

By the time it was terminated I was at FOundation so I have a lot of missing knowledge between the Oakhurst close, and the game termination up in the Seattle area.

Best honest answer I can give... ;)

Thanks, just one more q..

When were the images of the Dilgar ships released to the public?
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
The Luke Mayrand images?

Oh I couldn't answer that one...

My recolection was that our web site was featuring certain stuff every few weeks, but I can't recall when that happened.

*shrug*
• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
if you look at the Sierra ITF site mirrored here, you'll find this image:

So it seems the ITF dilgar fighter design was finished in april '98 (if i read the date right...)
Edit: or is it june? damn US date-format
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.

Great! Thanks everyone. I couldnt believe the ITF team had so much bad reputation out there among the miniature gamers. Hopefully I have smoothed things out a little..
