It seems were all forgetting about the star of the movie...the freaking FIRETRAIN!

I almost walked out after seeing it's flaming greatness because I knew everything afterward would pale in comparison.*

*Not really, I had to bite my tounge to keep from yelling out "YEA!" when they took out the tripod at the end.

I'm still in love with the scene at the ferry when the tripods are shown crawling over the hills. It gave me the chills and at the same time had me visually stunned.

I hated how the car always had a path to follow. On the interstates all the dead cars somehow managed to leave a lane open. That bugged me to no end throughout the movie and left me wondering "uh, why?"

Saw WOTW last weekend. Was bloody excellent. I went in very very concerned about what Mr S and Mr T would do to the book. And I have to say he did a very good job. I was glued right from when it kicked off right to the end. Really gripping. Sanfam mentioned earlier how they showed little of the aliens at times. I just loved that. Really added a sense of fear and anticipation that they would appear at any time. And what a superb little actor Dakota Fanning in. She was superb in Man on Fire and she has excelled again.

Now I wonder how the UK film will fair, which is a full adaptation of the book set in the 19th century. Being done by Pendragon Pictures. Here's a link to the high res Quicktime trailer:

Its a very low budget affair compared to Spielbergs effort. And the cgi shots really do show that. Dunno really... not that impressed.

The movie was okay, but I want to stop that girl so that she cannot scream one more f***** time :)

all in all i thought it was a good film, nothing special, but watchable. have to say tho that i wanted to slap 'Robbie' silly most of the time, god he was a jerk! Other than that the only real question i had about the movie was: if the aliens managed to bury their walkers on the earth so long ago, why didnt they just take over then instead of going to the hassle of having to wipe out us? only thing i can think of is that they needed time to gather resources, but all their stuff was buried already wasnt it?

From what the movie showed, the aliens weren't just there to eradicate humans - humans were actually used as a `fertilizer', in a manner of speaking. That, or a terraforming agent.

So perhaps the aliens had all the resources millions of years ago, except enough indigenous biomass to terraform the planet to suit their needs. So they had to wait until a certain population limit had been reached before starting.

    Something like that.

Maybe I'm way off and the book explains it better, but it's been over 10 years since I read the book, so don't remember.
