I finally got a job!

ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
It's about goddamn time. After a month and a half of looking, I start training next week as a booking coordinator for a local (elite) salon. 10-11/h starting and I can stay on part time once school starts up again. This beats going back to my internship last summer (10/h and an hour drive away). So, yay for no more unemployment.

On the downside, there is no chance I'll be going overseas to teach next year. :(

    Congrats!!! :)

I have no idea what a booking coordinator at an (elite) salon does, or what an (elite) salon is, but if you like it, that's all that matters after all.

Heh. An (elite) salon would be a salon that charges exorbitant amounts of money in order to maintain an (elite) image of an (elite) clientelle. It's honestly pretty insane, but hey, the pay is pretty good. I'll basically be calling people and organizing appointments for eight hours a day, so it could be worse.

Wow! They must be (elite) clientele if the salon has to call them to make the appointment! :D

How does this affect your going-overseas plans? Not enough money?

I could conceivably do it with what I'd make by the end of the summer (probably ~$3900US), but that isn't a whole lot, and it seems like it'd be a much better choice to finish up community college with a pretty good local college job. I'll be able to afford school and save up money, not to mention be in a better position to prepare for time overseas. At that point, I can look at it again and decide whether I want to go straight to a real 4 year school and finish college or take a year off to go abroad. I'd like to do it now, but it seems likely that it'd just end up creating a mess of things and possibly forcing me to stay in this area longer than I already have to, which is absolutely the last thing I want.

Sounds better than it was, really. That's a month and a half of looking; my last job was actually last summer. After that, I couldn't work thanks to school and not having a car/license.

    Can't be worse than telemarketing...

Well yeah it can but who picks cotton these days anyway?

I'm annoyed that I am being tempted with a very, very well paid commission job that involves door-to-door pestering in the interests of collecting donations for a local environmental group. I wouldn't be so bothered by this if it were not for the fact that I simply cannot survive six to eight hours a day walking in the hot, humid, and sunny Long Island summer from door to door, bugging people for money :p. Maybe during the fall or the winter, but damnit...It's the summer! Gah! So tempting. Cable Guy, perhaps you might be interested by this sort of job. IM me sometime.
