Paper Models

WORFWORF The Burninator
Actually, paper is probably not the best thing to make this with but I'm fairly pleased with the result.

I like the game, I don't get to play it as much as I would like though. I also like the creative side to it, creating maps and building 3d scenary...though the Stargate was my first piece of scenary.

The original trilogy set is impossible to buy in the US now but there are some shops in Europe who still have some. There are also plans to sell more of the first set in Europe soon too, though it will be limited (basically they want to get rid of the last of their stock).

The forth set (called Universe) is coming out in August and will contain more ot characters but they will be combined with prequel and expanded universe characters too (including Thrawn).

Mostly Star Wars models and the Stargate for some reason.

This one is already next on my list, as soon as I find the time and some suitable heavy card.

Very nice...it's probably the right scale for the miniatures too.

It's also beyond my ability to create...for the moment.

What's a good place to start with those?

I mean.. They looked pretty damn impressive.. I want to learn to make something like that too. :D

    How?

    What'd I need?

The stargate was my first model for along time. It was a little fiddly in places but it turned out well.

It's probably not the easiest model on the website (check the link I posted above) but you could start with that , unless Biggles knows a better starting point.

If you haven't built a paper model in a long time (or never), then I highly recommend you start with the Taiidan Probe from Homeworld. It's a very simple model that you can build in an hour, but still has some interesting shapes to make it more than a box and teach you a bit. After that, build the Taiidan "Super Nova" Research Station. It's interesting, more complex than the probe, but still not too hard. You can get both of them here. Those Star Wars emplacements that Worf posted look like they shouldn't be too hard either.

For materials: get some 140gsm or 160gsm paper card. Use PVA glue (it dries clear and is easy to spread) or (my preferred option) use Uhu paper glue. Not the one in the tube, it doesn't spread well. Use the one in the yellow squeezy bottle.

What would be recommended printer for those? I mean... Is a normal colour one okay? :)

I've got some old BJC-2000 or something...

Pretty much any inkjet will do the job. It just needs to be able to handle the weight of the paper you use. I use an HP DeskJet 710C.
