Star Wars TV Show

RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
"Lucas confirmed that they are working on two TV series. One will be a half hour 3-D computer animated series and the other is a live action series. The live action series will star some of the characters featured in the movies, though not the main characters. Lucas will kick-off the series himself. They are planning on writing the entire first season and then shooting Season One all at once. He mentioned Lucasfilm is aiming for a production start in about a year."

Now, there are some paralels to jms' next project.....

It's about time they do something. There's so much material and only half a dozen movies have been made. It's a shame really.

One last aside, on a long term project...a certain known film writer/director was recently asked by a particular studio to do a series using an established character. This person is a big fan of B5 as well as a friend, so a call came to me to ask if I wanted in on this. I said hell yes. I can't say much else about it, because a) it wouldn't be appropriate and b) things can still fall out, though that's doubtful at this stage (negotiations have formally begun with the studio), but if it does go ahead, the plan is to write the whole first season over the course of 2005, shoot in the spring of 2006 for a fall 2006 debut. There are reasons why we'd have to write the whole thing first that will become clear once I can explain what the character is. Again, I dont want folks to get too excited about this, because this is a weird business and this is the one town where hope can kill you, but if it goes ahead as discussed, it could be massively cool. I really hope they're talking about Wedge Antilles...bring on the X-Wing novels storyline!!

I've been doing some rumor hunting the past few days...some places say a series taking place AFTER Return of the Jedi, others say BETWEEN Eps III and IV.

If the latter, I'd certainly enjoy seeing some of the Han Solo Trilogy (newer one) explored, perhaps the early rebel movement, like was seen only briefly with Bria Tharen in the HST.

Between 3 and 4 makes sense. A million novels/comics/etc. take place from within hours of Return of the Jedi to almost 40 years after. It's before 4 that is largely unexplored.

    BabyWars 3.5!
  • I honestly believe they're going to f*ck up on this one. They've tried Star Wars TV shows before, and look how *they* ended up. Ugh...

With the money behind it, the writing of the entire first season all at once, and the name Star Wars attached to it. Its going to be a huge success.

What TV channel wouldnt want it?

    I sense a bidding war.

Unless Fox has some arcane deal that puts it on their after american idol wednesday and before american idol thursday.
  • Has there been any hint as to what time period/era the live-action series is going to be based in? I personally would love to see a post-Endor storyline with the burgeoning New Republic establishing itself against the Empire.
This would of course mean the involvement of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who by default, has to be played by Jason Isaacs.

  • As I said in an earlier post...*ahem*

I've heard both after ROTJ, and between Eps III and IV.

Keep in mind, there's been rumblings of BOTH an animated and live-action series...so it could be both.

    Aha, apologies. :p

My comments pertaining to Jason Issacs atill stand. ;)

  • You know, I would have to agree with you there...he plays a GOOD well-mannered badguy
  • Yeah, the English are good at that. After all, we are inherently evil. ;)

Issacs has just the right build as well, and looks exactly like Thrawn, especially his portrayal in Tie Fighter. (Apart from the blue skin and red eyes, that is...)

If JMS is in charge of it, then I will watch it with deep interest. He can write a 5 year arc that spans 20 years and ties the two together with battles and political intrigue. Sound familiar? Who better than JMS.\

My source has just hinted that this could well be what JMS was referring to and that GL approached JMS personally.

To be honest, after the Timoth Zahn trilogy, i couldnt get into any of the extended universe stuff, I loved the Thrawn Trilogy, and i just wish they had stopped there,

I had always hoped after lucas got done butchering eps 1, 2 and 3, that he'd do eps 7, 8 and 9, using the Thrawn trilogy,

It could be done as a movie, using orig actors, as even though the books take place a mere 5 years after ROTJ, there is no reason that it couldnt take place 20-30 years after ROTJ, setting up a new governmental system in an area as vast as the SW Universe could take decades, and as for factions still being loyal to the emperor, hell there are still idiots "loyal" to hitler,

The only thing that would have to be vastly changed, would be the story relating to Han & Leia's twins.

    just my .02 Republic Credits..
  • Today's Penny-Arcade pretty much sums up my fears about the live-action show. :)

    Jason Isaacs as Thrawn.. YES...

There's just something about the Man.. His voice.

Hell.. I bought Peter Pan on dvd just cuz of him. And cuz it was 4 euros. But still.

Any good movies that have him in a bit of a more than statistic?

Soldier (or something like that, with Kurt Russel) is/was a silly little movie with him as a silly military officer.. Might get it as some kind of curiosity.

But come on.. he must've done some real movies too.

I don't think it will be any of the extended universe material because I don't think whats his face acknowledges it. I know he has implemented some fan ideas like Coruscant for example but hes always had a plot & a set story.

    Michael Wincott?

That guy who was the main villain in The Crow?

And had a bit part in Alien: Excrement as the captain of the pirate ship ? That brought the guinea pigs for impregnation.

He was Tavington (Cavalry commander) in The Patriot with Mel Gibson; also, Captain Steele in Black Hawk Down; also, the good doctor who ends up the center of a satanic ritual in Even Horizon.

Too chunky IMO. He has the right facial structure, but his physique is too big. To me, Thrawn will always be how he was portrayed in "Tie Fighter", in which he played a leading role.
