    Despite some experience with fish... I have never seen (neither directly nor indirectly) and never heard of a shark jumping. :)

    To my understanding, sharks don't jump.

    actually, they do jump. some great whites in particular off the coast of S. Africa use the method to attack seals. when they are hunting they swim far beneath the surface almost at the limit of visibility until they spot a seal, they make a rapid ascent up underneath and grab it, launching themselves into the air in the process. doing it this way, are approaching the seal from its blind spot and have a much better chance of making a kill.
