I never really did like Best Buy in the first place. Almost all the employes (save for a couple in the movie department) are incompetent morons working their teeage lives away to pay of their cell phone bill that they went over the minutes that daddy pays for.

Boy am I bitter or what?
• The first and only time I've ever shopped there, I asked an employee where I could find a wireless network card; he told me that he didn't think Best Buy sold them.

thats it, I still have a few 2$ bills...next time I go to Best Buy, I'm using them. :D

The first and only time I shopped there I walked out annoyed at their lack of checkers (leaving the item I was buying on a nearby stand that was no where near where it came from).

Hi and welcome to Best Buy, how can we get you wrongfully prosecuted today?

I love this site

That is absolutely mind-boggling, did the authorities give the man an explanation for his arrest? Unless there was a publicly-acknowledged danger of counterfeit $2 bills in circulation, the guy shouldn't have been arrested for using legal tender. Hell, I work in Boots, and I've been paid with Scottish and Nothern Irish fifty pound notes, and I didn't go screaming to the old bill. If it's legal tender, and doesn't look forged you accept it.

Sorry, I feel strongly on the issue.

Well I tried to apply there AND I got World of Warcraft key from there.

I've given up on Best Buy also, though I do shop at Circuit City. Always had good luck with them, and usually walk out with a better deal than I planned. For example, CC has a Sony digital8 camcorder for $299, sounded good to me, I could get digital without spending an arm and a leg. Went over to BB to price match, found the same model for $279. Back to CC (just across the street), the associate checked BB's website, found it there for $269 and said, that's the price we'll use. He also threw in a tripod/camera bag set for free for the trouble, even though that was only supposed to be on camera more than $399.

You're just saying what most of us already know. The issue here is one of ignorance on the part of the Best Buy employees. $2 bills are legal tender, but aren't in regular circulation much at all.

I've seen some store employees do some particularly stupid things, so it's not a surprise that a rather dense person might think the $2 bills are fake.

Hell, a friend of mine once asked a McDonalds drive through employee if they accepted "federal reserve notes", and she told him 'no'. Just goes to show you that people can be dumb.

hmm, I've heard alot of bad things about Best Buy this week, lucky me I don't have to deal with them. ;)

As I said at the end of the post, it was a bit of a rant on my part. I've been refused transactions when trying to pay with Scottish notes, and it really pissed me off. (Not even the manager would authorize it.) These people should be trained and informed what is legal tender, it's the most basic thing if you're working in retail.

To your point, it also means they are taking 10s and 20s without question, so unless you see them mark them up, or run under a UV scanner, there's no way they'll know whether they bills are real or not.

I doubt the average cashier is attentive enough to tell a conterfit from a real $20 bill.

Channel Islands currency is legal tender in the UK but try using it!

yeah the whole scottish money thing really pisses me off:mad:   it is perfectly legal to use scottish money in any part of the UK, but noone will accept it south of the border for no apparent reason. its not as of it even costs them money to accept it! (using english money is fine in scotland, and everywhere else in the UK!)

I know, it's absolutely ridiculous. The only alternative is to have a massive go at the guy behind the counter and invoke Trading Standards, but having worked in retail myself, I don't like to cause trouble.

I must admit that on occasion I'll deliberately try to pay with C.I. currency at somewhere like Macdonalds just to get a reaction

It's probably juvenile but sometimes I like to let the inner-child run around for a bit.

true, but when your at a service station with only a scottish fiver and are trying to pay for some sweets at 85p, you dont really want to pay with a card, or get more cash out to pay for something that by law you can pay with what you already have!
• I had a similar issue with Best Buy...

Sister-in-law (to be) got a new car stereo from daddy for christmas, on a special deal: free speakers, free installation. We get there and

A: they first say, 'we NEVER do free speakers AND free installation'
-finally we get it figured out that it's free speakers and installation on the speakers....but not free installation on the head unit

B. We go to get the right speakers, and the free speakers do NOT fit in her car...they do not fit in most model cars (4 1/2 " round)
-so they say "what you do is find speakers that fit your car, and we apply the 25 dollar credit from the free speakers to the set that fits. I have talked to a manager once already about deceptive advertising and not fulfilling customer satisfaction.

C. We find a pair of 50 dollar speakers that will fit.
-They are OUT of the 50 dollar speakers, and showing us the 70 dollar speakers that we need to get instead.
-I talk to the manager again. first the free speakers won't fit, then they are out of the 50 dollar speakers. She finally gives us the 70 dollar speakers at the 50 dollar price minus the 25 dollars. Fine, just install the frakking stereo and get us out of here.

D. We go up front to pay, then go around back to pay the installation fee on the head unit. Far as we knew, we had paid the installation fee up front...the numbers seemed to add up. My sister-in-law (to be) comes back out of the back steaming. They charged her 30 dollars for installation!!!
-pulling out receipts, we see that the helpful folks up front did not give us the 25 dollar credit. So I go BACK to the front, get our 25 dollars, and they were glad to get rid of me I'm sure

Total time: roughly three hours and 40 minutes.

My father is a police chief in Missouri. He took one of his cruiser's dash camera's, which he had gotten at Best Buy, in because it was malfunctioning, hoping to fulfill the warranty. He had the warranty information with him, but the camera was purchased by his assistant chief, and needed HIS credit card number to look up the warranty in the computer. Could I just give you his name and you can look it up that way? Cross reference it? No, I'm sorry...only the credit card number.

When they finally get around to fulfilling the warranty, they replace his 600 dollar camera with a 250 dollar one. What's this? he asks. The warranty is a replacement of the camera for one of the same technology. they only sell for 250 now. You're out 400 dollars. Thanks and have a nice day

Total time: Not sure, I wasn't there.
End result: my parents don't shop at Best Buy anymore, and my dad spends the thousands every year for police cruiser equipment somewhere else

True. An upstanding British citizen shouldn't have to put up with it, really.

A land fit for heroes, indeed...
