Ready for the next wave ?

Where small portions of code become legally and fiscally 'real' ?

With shit like this going on.... it soon will be.

yea, saw that...sorta like online realestate. I WISH I had gotten into that one. Claim the land in some MMORPG then sell it. I remember someone claiming an entire island, then selling it and making ALOT of money.

I have to say that case is not unique...I was playing a game called NavyField and about two weeks into the beta the Hong Kong server closed & they decided the US server was the best place to play...Well I have to say after 5 mins of gaming with these guys there is absolutely no point to playing. They came in like rats kicked out other players already native to America. & made some very very arrogant statements you really couldn't win with these guys. Alot of people have left that...I've also heard things about a certain other game...

A game is there to have fun get your rush & and go home...These guys acted like it was the only thing they ever do. & shit it was!
  • This situation has also popped up in World of Warcraft.

Folks were selling in-game items on ebay for real money. Blizzard said in-game stuff was their IP and threatened to revoke anyone's account if they tried this virtual profiteering act.

Personally I don't see the big deal. I would never dream of spending my hard-earned dough on that next weapon upgrade.. even though my paladin is in dire need of one :)

    Edit: Link fixed now.
  • this happens in just about every game. i remember a friend who actually made over a $1000USD by selling diablo2 items via ebay.. that was at a time when blizzard didn't much care about such things. nowadays they slap you around if you try something like this

with WoW, people sold in-game money for real money on ebay

Yet one more proof that more and more people of this world are loosing it and don't have even the most basic kind of intelligence and common sense anymore.

People have been killing them selves over money since time immemorial, and money does not have any value by itself.
And by the way, I suppose the guy killed him over the money more than the sword..

Well hey, it _was_ the guy's sword. The friend to whom he'd lent it had absolutely no right to sell it. So, the man who got wronged didn't get justice from the system and he took it in his own hands. Ditto.

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass since I didn't know either of the people involved, but hell, if I'd lend for example a higher-class drawing of mine to a friend and he'd sell it, I'd at least make sure he'd no longer be a friend of mine nor be able to walk straight for a couple of months. Going as far as killing the other guy in question? Beats me, if he thought it was prompt action to take, maybe it was? Heat of the moment gets you far in some cases. ;)

Heck, I couldn't see myself killing anyone, but that kind of trick would piss me off as well. :)

But all in all, I've seen so many idiots online, that there seems to be some miniscule truth to my idea that what you do online, in a world of minimal or no consequence for your actions also reflects quite a bit your inner psyche, who you really are behind that facade you put on every day in real life.

So on those terms, if a guy can pull a stunt like that without remorse IRL or Online, he's better off dead. Yes, in the real world. Thank you.

A bit harsh, perhaps, but I'm starting to lose faith on a lot of people of late... I've become a rasist to some lengths since rap emerged, the amount of idiots worldwide with lawsuits and general incapability to understand even the simplest of things is beyond my understanding and my one-for-all solution to junkies, drunk drivers, rapists and murderers, one-time felonists or repeated offenders, is adopted from China: A shot in the head and the organs for those in need.

Even I would've lost some of my family, friends and my girlfriend if the world worked like that, but sometimes it seems we'd still be better off.

Heck, I just can't stand it anymore.

I still sell stuff on D2...

The legality is that your not selling the items but the time invested to get them.

At this point I think they've given up because people sell whole accounts on D2. Some even post on the blizzard forum.
  • I know a guy (a friend of a friend ;)) who levels and sells Everquest characters for quite a bit of money. I can't imagine ever wanting to play the game again after doing that for a month or two, but he hasn't tired of it yet.

For those who feel capitism is a bad thing, this is proof that a free market will create itself in almost any situation and is a natural outcome of the human condition (refering to the statment about people trading virtual items, not killing each other over them)...
