September 30th.

I know alot of us are dissapointed about B5:TMoS, but I strongly urge us to support this short lived TV series that could have been on par with Babylon 5. Unlike many series, this one hit the ground running, but was killed by the executives (a fate similar to Crusade).

That and I want to the the doctor shirtless again.

That's your entire justification? "stupid mix of genres"?

If you're going to criticize the show, at least provide some proof to back up your claims. Just saying it's "crap" doesn't do anyone any good.

I loved Firefly. The characters were well-written and intriguing and the western/space setting was interesting (it also made perfect sense within the story).

I thought the mix went quite well. I recall seeing a pilot to one series that combined a more middle age Europe and sci fi theme, and that didn't work all that well. Somehow the western flair (flare?) was believable and fresh. Not everything was western (ended up that fox didn't like the real pilot to the show, to intillectual, so they made a new one with more action and more westerny. Sound familar?); not every sci fi has to be traditional space opera too.

And did I mention the doctor is a total hunk?

(Ok and the engineer was a total babe. May as well make a comment for 95% of the viewers on this forum =P)

No, but it was the main element. A western mixed with spaceships? I agree that it was something new, but it just didnt feel correct.
It was a series I watched just to have something to watch, much like Andromeda.

The western element of the show wasn't there for no reason. It was part of the story.

After the war with the Alliance, most of the losing side retreated to distant planets, many of which were without technological comforts. So many people reverted to older means of living, hence the western theme.

Firefly was fantastic, it brought a breath a fresh air to sci fi!!! Shame it got unjustly killed by Fox. And I agree with Croxis, this film should be supported as hopefully they'll bring the show back. It has been said that Fox have signed for 2 more films in the 1st one does well, so who knows... Which reminds me, need to order the dvd boxset :D After Star Wars & The Hitchhikers Guide, this is the next film I'm really looking forward too :)

Fox doesn't own the rights to Serenity. It's a Universal film.

Ah right, didn't realise that. Suppose I should have checked on IMDB... oh well with Fox out of the picture thats a whole lot better!
  • I bought the Firefly box set on impulse off of Play.com never having seen a single episode and must admit that it was definitely different.

It's a shame it hasn't lasted as long as Buffy or Angel.

Just picked up the boxset off Amazon.co.uk (Jersey section) for a whole £12 inc shipping!!! Oh Happy Days!!! :D
