    I've seen those things before. They're pretty nifty. In the original [i]War of the Worlds[/i] movie they wanted to use that effect to suspend the marshian ships, but they found it to be a little on the expensive and dangerous side.

    However, the question of how exactly a lifter obtains its propelling force... is to my outdated understanding, still open to debate.

    I personally would wish one tested in space (or high vacuum) -- just to finally detrmine which part atmosphere (availability of particles to ionize) plays in generating propelling force.
