One more reason to open up Services panel and disable "Windows Messaging" and any other remote administration services that might be running :) purple
• I only started seeing those since Service Pack 2. Some sort of port thing?

Its called network administration. The problem with Windows is it never actually checks if the sender is inside your domain. Furthermore windows is able to be spoofed to believe the sender really is inside your domain when he isn't.

Just turn off everything dealing with remote administration in your Services control panel (right-click my computer, click "Manage," and hunt down Services - I assume XP is the same as 2k) and it will vanish. purple
• LMAO...save that one jack, thats great! :D

Methinks a couple of you missed the mouse reference at the bottom of it...

;)

Yes

Methinks I did. purple However, it is still probably a broadcast shutdown coming in through a service, not actually the result of a mouse move.

I didnt.. That's what I found funny..

I mean.. If moving the mouse is an illegal operation in windows, how the hell does it work?

I saw it Jack. :D
• Might also be some "humorous" virus which promotes keyboard-only computer use (if it hijacked an account with sufficient privileges to run a shutdown).

My favorit error ever is still one that we got oneday at the ISp i used to work at, it was an error in Foxpro "Error of type 47 while reporting error of type 47"

Ok... you guys are working way too hard and being way too serious about this...

This isn't a real message from XP. Someone post edited this graphic from a real one to make this humorous spoof...

;)

Jack, the scary thing is it could be an actual XP message becuase of the security holes in all windows NT OSs when running without firewall and with default services enabled.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
In the old ICQ client, if you tried to post too much text into a real-time chat window, you got an error dialog with the simple message "Yeah, right! ;-)".

One more reason to install XP-AntiSpy and tick almost every available box after Windows Activation and Update. :D

Recommended. Truly. I'm not an XP user myself, but recently built my mother a new computer and plugged in an OEM -version of XP Home with an SP2 pre-installation. Very nice little tool to disable those pesky, annoying little aspects of XP.

Works in Win 2000 Pro SP4 too, btw. ;)
