MSN messenger problems

ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie."London, UK
im having a little problem with messenger in my flat at the moment.

every so often it signs itself in and out by itself saying its lost the connection. then when im talking to someone, their messages cant get through to me after 5 or so minutes of perfect performance, or my messages cant get through to people.

ive got a bandwidth tester on firefox and when i run it at these times, it tells me ive ~250 to 350Kbps (im having the problem at the moment and its running at ~400Kbps)

anyone got any idea wtf is going on with it? ive got messenger beta, but that aint the problem as i had the same problem with 6.1 and ive swapped between them.

i might tryout trillian and see if that sorts the problem, but i like the freatures of beta (or can i use them still with trillian?)

any help/ideas/constructive abuse appreciated!

What kind of features does beta have?

little gadgets like being able to send handwriting messages (think ms paint style), being able to have your status appear to people as offline when you sign in so they dont know ur online. couple of other gizmos as well that ive never used: nudges(?), contact cards

I am constantly amazed that MSN has only just got a basic feature that ICQ has had since before I can remember. :)
  • croxiscroxis I am the walrus
ICQ had it before I started using it back in... back in... 1996-98

Trillian signs you on in the same state you were when you closed trillian, including invisible I believe. As for the handwriting thing, don't think it's got that. Multiplayer MS Paint to go with Multiplayer Notepad ;)

  • Being able to log on 'invisibly' is about the least useful feature I have ever heard of.

Unless, of course, you are being stalked by (a) Tyvar, or (b) some other creepy and/or annoying person (or persons) who you don't want to/can't block for one reason or another...

Or you have a large contact list and as soon as you sign on you get flooded by people trying to talk to you. Or you don't want someone to know you're online but want to talk to someone else.
