Debian "Sarge" + "Telehell"

PJHPJH The Lovely Thing
Any Linux guru's here who might miraculously know how to get Telewell ("Telehell") IA-300 internal ADSL modem to work with the 2.4.27 Kernel of Debian Sarge?

Arrrghhh..... been having lots of trouble only because of this old modem which is not supported anymore. I've had to use old 2.4.18 Kernel to get the modem working, but that in turn gives some other trouble (i.e. can't get my Audigy 2 to work  ) so I'd like to use the latest 2.4.27 Kernel.

What driver is used in the 2.4.18 kernel? Is it supported in a 2.6.x one?

  • I've got Sarge installed on a little PC-104 industrial mainboard, but it's running 2.6.8 without any suitable ADSL modem nearby.

It's the driver which I downloaded from the same place you linked to (Easytel's website), but that driver supports only Kernel versions 2.4.16 and 2.4.18 and it's the latest driver for this modem to my knowledge. No support in 2.6.x AFAIK.

Actually I have to force the load of the module even in 2.4.18 and it gives a warning message, but still works. But when I try it in 2.4.27 the system freezes when I try to contact the DCHP to get IP etc.

I guess my only hope is to get a newer modem unless someone knows a way to make it work in 2.4.27, or 2.6.x.

I got to say, that at least in this sense Windows is better than Linux. It supports even older modems.

    Heh.... new aardvark smilies. Cool.

Aren't the odd numbered kernels Betas?

    Problem there maybe?

No, you're thinking of the 2.5 line of kernels, which was the development version of 2.6.
