I know I've been hunkered down a bit of late, and there have been very good
reasons for it...which someday I suspect I will be able to tell, perhaps in the
form of another fairy tale....
So in the interim, a quick roundup.
I'd say that the next two weeks are going to be critical for the future of
TMoS. There have been a variety of conversations about a variety of things and
people, and some offers are starting to go out to various individuals...so we
shall see what we shall see.
On the subject of the Crusade DVD commentary...I see another fairy tale looming
in the future...WB has agreed, after quite a bit of noise, to remove the
commentary that I did from all future pressings of the set, since that was the
deal that we had made: use it all, including the explanation of what happened,
or use none of it. So those of you who have your DVDs now, and for the next
bit, will have that commentary. Those afterward won't. I don't know when the
next pressing will be, but whenever that is, is when the change takes place.
AOL as some have noted is closing down its newsgroup system, so I'm going to
have to retrench. Consequently, I may be offline for a bit...though I'll
likely be off regardless for the next bit while the dust settles on TMoS.
I've added a comics convention appearance in Canada this summer, but I'll let
the con in question do the announcing at the proper time rather than
pre-empting them.
In February at one point I'll also be in Toronto to co-direct my radio drama
series "The Adventures of Apocalypse Al" for CBC Radio. It should be a great
deal of fun. It's kind of Monty Python Meets The Maltese Falcon En Route To
the End of the World.
In relation to the comics stuff...my first issue of Fantastic Four (entitled
"Distant Music") will be coming out in June, the same month that my graphic
novel Dream Police *finally* hits the stores. Mike Deodato has had to squeeze
in the artwork between issues of Amazing Spider-Man, but it's been worth the
wait. It's just gorgeous...very film noir but also very funny.
We've also found an artist finally for The Book of Lost Souls, which will be
debuting from Marvel in September. I can't reveal her name yet, because that
has to come through Marvel, but she's a very well known and popular artist.
Finally, for those of you who know Fiona Avery's work from Crusade, B5 and her
own comics, I'm informed that her first novel, "The Crown Rose," is due to come
out in hardcover from Prometheus Books. It's a historical fantasy set in
Medieval France and quite good. You can locate the book at:

It would be great if the B5 fans out there could give this book a great
send-off.
More on other stuff when I can post it.

Well, his lack of denial about the current rumor gives me even more suspision to think its true. I have a feeling if jms can't get his way he will pull the plug. I have a feeling that TMoS will either save, or kill, Babylon 5
That's exactly what I was thinking. The news about the potential recasting has been all over the place, and this would have been the perfect place to put out a straight denial if he could, so it really does seem to lend some more credit towards the "the rumors are true" side of things.

Unless like i postulated before, he's been told by the studio to say NOTHING about casting one way or another.

That seem very unlikely. If they are using the original cast, why would they keep it a secret?
It's what everyone would expect (before the rumors apperaed) and also what everyone wants.
It would surpries onone, it wouldn't piss off anyone so what's the point of keeping it secret? Why hide it if there isn't anything to hide? That doesn't make any sence.
If that they aren't talking about it and even tell JMS not to talk about it is can only mean that there's something fishy going on.
BTW: About the Crusade DVD commentary: Why are they being removed? What's wrong with them?
That seem very unlikely. If they are using the original cast, why would they keep it a secret?
Because saying anything would confirm for a fact that they are making a movie, whereas so far all we have are incredibly obvious rumours.

He still could say something like "don't believe anything you read on the internet" ...

This is Hollywood, it doesn't have to make sense.
and it can ONLY mean there is something fishy going on? No, it could also be a BRILLIANT publicity stunt.
Get the whole B5 community up in arms, Get Free Press/Publicity, then when it comes out and has either the orig cast, or comes out with no orig cast and no recsts, everybody goes to see it thinking "hey, i helped save this project" WB makes millions, the fans are happy they got what they wanted (even if it had been the plan all along)
I'm still not saying that it isn't true, i'm just very cautious where hollywood is concerned, i've spent too many years listening to rumors that were so far off base.
He still could say something like "don't believe anything you read on the internet" ...
Unless he's been told not to address the rumors at all.
Remember, all these rumors, true or not, are free publicity, and getting the fans all riled up. if the rumors are NOT true, WB might be perfectly happy letting the fans get all agitated, and telling all their friends to get involved,

You mean they didn't?
I'm still going with osscam's razor on this one.
Occam's
So what is the simpler solution here. that the world is against B5 and every time we are going to get a new B5 show the gods mess it up.
Or that people are getting all upset without any real proof.
I've already sent in a letter, but i just can't get all bent out of shape about this.
You mean they didn't?
Well, the Magic 8 Ball said no to Lincoln and Kennedy, but yes to Elvis...and my Quija Board said, and I quote:
'Get a job'
Dunno what that means.

I think its telling you to audition for the roll of Capt Sheridan!
:)
(I was wondering when I'd finally have an excuse to use that much-vaunted feature)

When JMS told a "fairy tale" he was talking about the TNT suits interference with Crusade.
So this is as close and as sneaky as he can get to say: the studio suits are messing things up.
That's also what he's talking about WRT the Crusade commentary.
Of course you don't have to believe it... it's only a fairy tale.;)
But I do see it as confirmation of the rumors of studio interference into the casting (which three independent sources confirmed, including the fact that Joe DeMartino first said "I don't believe it" after being in software limbo for lack of time to read and post, but after a short while he came out and said something like: "the rumours are true, get of your encounter-suited butts and do something!").
As to the offers going out to various individuals, is it possible that the offers are going out to the original cast and if they accept they're in?
Or (more likely in IMHO if offers have gone out) is it possible offers have gone out to other actors for re-casting of original roles, and if the chosen actors do not accept then offers will be made to the original actors?
I really hope that made sense ;)
The biggest clue in that post by JMS is an obscure one... something he might tell about it in a "fairy tale"

We'll i've already written in, even though i still don't believe it. Nor will i until there is concrete proof,
