Ok, I'm slowly starting to accept the fact that ITF is finally 6ft under. So... after this, a small little bobbing thought armed with an electrified sledgehammer assaulted the right lobe of my brain and made me wonder what would be the next best thing after an official B5 sim. Opinions wanted.
So, before you throw in suggestions as sex/drugs/bungee jumping [ ], I'll clarify that I'm talking about mods here. Mods and / or freeware projects and such... So what (in your opinion) would be the closest equivalent to the original ITF project... graphic- and physics wise?
I'm saying that the best bet so far is the improved Buda 5 mod for I-War 2 which I guess is still in the making, but that's my opinion. (Insert "I ran to the store and bought it" -comment here)
Another thing which crossed my mind is that now when our 'pet' is officially dead, could we all as a merry little bunch contribute somehow in the making of this next best thing? Or would that be just another disaster scenario of "too many cooks"?
Weee... another trivial post. Don't kill me for it, I'm a bit tired...

so, why not helping the mod/freewaregames theam with there mods and games
Anyway, I think IFH is the best thing, the closest thing we can get to ITF...

"Now, we gave you a promise and we are bound by that promise and damn you for asking for it! And damn me for agreeing to it! And damn all of us to hell, because that's exactly where we're going! We talked about peace. You didn't want peace. We talked about cooperation. You didn't want cooperation. You want war! Is that it? You want a war? Well you've got a WAR!"

First, we wait until the whole ITF -embargo has faded from the minds of normal average gamers. People who never really even cared about ITF probably don't remember it anymore, but several gaming mags have archived stories about it, so they still remember. Because they still do, some probably even fairly well, they don't want to waste good pages on an old issue. But with time-
What I'm aiming at is "whatever happened to B5" -article. The idea is to wait around until the best mods plus freeware games are in such condition that they'd look ready and appealing to the general public. After this, we round up all the data about them, relevant facts and the basic info. (Credits, development crews, the first steps of the embargo ... )
After this, we write a petition of sorts to every gaming mag we can get hold of, and with the petition we give them links to the mods, basic raw material and possibly even stuff that can be placed on an article in its basic form. Good, formulated text, that is. And in the 'petition' we ask them if they'd be interested in doing an article about a game that was cancelled, but which the fans & developers never completely let die. [Guess the game ] And what the dream that got the axe has today changed into.
If the information we provide is good enough, and if we show the mags the fierce amount of good, graphically very sophisticated mods out there, they should be interested enough. Interested enough to at least think about publishing such an article.
Ok, let's be realistic; This kind of thing could result in 1-3 mags in publishing an article, 2 pages at the best (The guys at PELIT -here in Finland have always been good to us), a short article at most, but most of all, we could get public interest at a rather small trouble, plus of course good publicity for the mods.
And IF we get any such attention, maybe some new-boss-in-house in an average gaming company gets the idea to fund a certain little project. How much can it cost, we could buy & modify the engine from Particle, contact some Old Hounds (no offense) who'd probably be willing to work on in their old project and so-on, possibly license some fan-made models and pick up the pieces here and there...
Sorry, I still think the game was too good a thing to go to waste. Someone has to see all the good that can come from it sooner or later.
So, no frontal assault, no DOLPHINS STILL GONE! -attempts, let's settle for Now And Then; Dolphins -article.
Mmmmmmmmmmkayy? 11.05PM zzzzzz...need sleep. Bad.
But we could do this later on. It might take a year or so, but I think at least I'll be writing a formal letter some time in the future--

Biggles figured that since this was about B5, the best place for it was the B5 forum, not the zocalo.

Well, that's one shift in the not-so-popular direction. Since it seems that almost every thread that gets moved gets moved from the B5 board to the Zocalo, not the other way around.
