MINIMAC + MINIIPOD = ECSTACY
Hey, Congratulations!!!

I have yet to see the miniMac in person but it looks quite cool at Apple's page.
In any case... I just got an iMac G5 20" with wireless keyboard and mouse. :):):)
    Excellent machine.

Now I just need an iPod...

I have to admit, I'm a little dissapointed with the Mac Mini. I was hoping for something with a bit more power that would provide a way to finally get a Mac (I've been wanting one for a while) without having to shell out far more than I can afford. As it is, you can get a brand-name (ug) PC desktop complete with monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers and printer here with significantly more power than the Mac Mini for less.
  • True but the advantage of the mini is I that I can use my current monitor, keyboard & mouse. Though longterm I'll probably pick up a good Widescreen DVI monitor but that won't be till I know what I can afford hehe. Im a little dissapointed in the video card though I was hoping for 64. I wonder if that will make it hard for DV editing or even impossible?

It's not so much that as that, from what I've heard, the combination of CPU power and video card would struggle to run OSX smoothly above 1024x768. Of course, not owning a Mac myself, I can't say how true this is. Besides, if you're happy to use your existing keyboard, monitor and mouse shouldn't you be asked for a lower price than a computer that comes with them all, or (given that it's a Mac) at least the same?
  • If there was a way to build my own affordable mac I'd do it. I don't think there are any other manufacturers other than Apple though. I have no problem spending the little extra cash to get a kick ass editing station. That I might add is less likely to die on me.

I'm writing this from a five year old Blue & White G3, 400 Mhz, 384 MB RAM, running OS X 10.2.8 at 1280 x 1024 with a 16 MB video card...

It does run smoothly (unless I run too many applications at once, but that should be solved by more RAM).

I would upgrade to 10.3 (and expect it to run just as smoothly, maybe only adding more RAM) were it not for the fact that I'll be moving to a new job soon.

I'd upgraded the OS several times (it came with 8.6!) and it hasn't been a problem yet. You'd be surprised at how robust and long lasting these Macs can be...

So I'd expect the Mac Mini to be more than capable to handle Mac OS X 10.3 smoothly with no problems.
