Last cloudless night was saturday... btw comet Machholz shows with naked eyes.
And with 20x60 binoculars it showed nicely... and M42 looks damn nice with them. So I can recommend those if you're interested in this topic but don't want to buy telescope. (they're also damn good for observing "ground targets")
Also Russian binoculars have very good quality/price ratio.

I don't know do other astronomical associations have these kind systems.
