Pairing up older memory with newer

Does pairing pc2400 with pc2700 cause any trouble? Or a latency problem? I have 2 256 sticks one 2700 one 2400.

  • It should not be a problem, unless the other stick just won't cooperate with your mobo's chipset. Anyway you can wipe your ass with those factory specs, if both sticks have good memory chips as for example the highly overclockable Winbond BH-5...

Assuming you're running the pc2700 at pc2400 speeds and not the other way around, there shouldn't be any problems at all.

If it's the other way around, then it depends on how overclockable the pc2400 is, as Eclecticonaut said.
  • Ok thanks again fellas.

Yup, that's correct. I run 2 types of memory myself. 256Mhz and 333Mhz. They run at 256Mhz without any problems, but if I overclock the system becomes unstable.
