TMoS in trouble, JMS needs our help!
To one and all. I know none of you know me. I have been a member over at b5tv and JMSNews for some time now. Some of you may know me from there.
We need your help!
It has been confirmed by sources that there is a problem with TMoS!
JMS is fighting to keep the series cast in their roles! WB is balking, now at the eleventh hour, stating that they think the film should be recast with big name stars.
The financiers have sent out character descriptions attempting to prove to JMS that there will be no fan outcry if they recast.
We must prove them wrong!
The hour is drawing near when a decision will be made: to recast, to keep the original cast actors or to scrap the project.
WB is shopping TMoS to other production houses saying a TV to film project isn't big enough for them!
We have proven to them with over 100 million dollars in DVD sales on the B5 and Crusade DVD's that we are bigtime and the fan have voted!
We must now make sure WB knows that our vote must count!
We are in the process of compiling lists of snail and email addresses so the fans can write in and let WB know that a feature film will most definately be successful but only if our cast is in it!
Let your voices be heard. Start internet buzz by going everywhere else you go and let others know about what WB is trying to do to JMS, us and the cast that worked so hard for us.
Anyone with contact info can email me at aflessas@sppictures.com!
At this point WB is denying any B5 feature project exists, so all I can get is the main address.
Both the production and development departments claimed no knowledge of a B5 feature. But since WB has not officially announced, I'm not surprised by this. Info being sent out is insider info, so they would deny to someone, even if they knew the insider info if they didn't have some name recognition.
So, anyway, if you want, you can snail mail to WB at the main address and make it attention development department or even be bold and make it attention Babylon 5 or TMoS.

I will continue to press for insiders to snail mail and email to. My search has only just begun and I'm at work at the moment which hinders me greatly.
If any of you British types would like to try calling Elstree to see if you can get a number or name at the B5 offices there, that would be great. You can email any info to me at aflessas@sppictures.com and I will try to start coordinating a list of snail and e-mail locations and names, etc.

We must act now to save our beloved cast before a decision is made. WB must know that the fans do matter and we do care who plays our main characters!

Ok Im dismissing it as hearsay & BS.
Actually, this is a confirmed fact. The casting descriptions went out to agents recently. My insider vehemently confirmed that they did and that the cast is not happy.
Also, Jan and Amy, both long-timers at rastmb5 have gotten independent confirmation.
This is a problem...hide your head if you like...then if the cast changes, you can go see the new cast alone.
BTW, I fixed the link to my site...it works now.

Note: this is out side my control, so i wait and see what happens.
When Michael O'hare was forced out where was JMS? Sinclair was the best character. Why is it soo important now to keep cast members? Maybe JMS can just rewrite the story and introduce new, more exciting characters that won't have the horrible one liner "Now get outta of our gallaxy!!!!"
Also if I remember right JMS stated once the 5-year story arc was finished that was it, no more. All he can technically do is go back before the pilot episode and tell a good war story. Dilgar War or something like that!
I think though that if JMS feels he needs the support of the fan base, he'd find a creative avenue to get the word out without breaking NDA.
If he feels that the project should be killed, I have a tendancy to go with his decision even if it means NO feature film.
Look what TNT did to Crusade...
You think JMS will let that kinda shit happen again?
;)
Besides, non of us really know the story, and who is to be in it? We could be getting all hot under the collar over nothing.

While i respect what you are trying to do, Untill there is official confirmation from JMS, or the studio i'm afraid it cannot be "confirmed fact"
You do realise that studios have released disinformation about shows before, and that whenever a series is about to recieve a spinnoff, or be re-introduced, that there are always false rumors out there.
And as someone else pointed out, if we flood WB with all sorts of firery corrospondance, and it turns out to be just a rumor, we've done nothing but hurt B5's reputation,

Just to clear something up here Michael O'Hare was not exactly forced out. In most that I have read and heard (If I remember right from JMS) that Michael actually wanted to move on and do other things. I even think this may be covered in the commentary in Season 2 though I or one of my friends here would have to double check for sure.
That's how i remember it happening too

As mentioned in another post, there can be no confirmation from JMS. The closest you might get to it, is the fact that he's active in the newsgroup right now and is not denying anything...which is a strong sign that there is something going on.
And while you folks here do not know me....I have been around the B5 community for some time and have a trusted reputation...not to mention Jan and Amy who both have been around for years and are oldtimers with JMS...and they have independent assurance that this is going on.
As a filmmaker, myself, I can tell you that positive letters, asking WB and TPTB to keep the original cast in place can do no harm...but would only serve to reassure WB that the fans are 100% behind this film whether this is true or not.
If nothing is said, and JMS and the cast have no back-up from the fans (which is exactly what TPTB want so they can say to JMS, "see they didn't care after all" which is why I'm told they allowed this to leak so what you're doing would happen -- dismissing it as rumor and doing nothing basically -- and JMS would be effectively shut down from doing or saying anything (it's called Hollywood politics)) and this cast is pushed aside because JMS couldn't point to fan outcry...then complacency is to blame and perhaps the fans (or certain ones) would deserve it.
As for me...as for the majority of the fans I've spoken with since comfirming this (which have been a lot)...we're going to speak up. It can't hurt anything to reaffirm with WB our support for B5 and its cast....but it can hurt to say nothing.

The truth!
My memeory is shot. Maybe I recalled wrong, but I am just thinking the more we push the more reluctant WB's postion will be on this. But hey you guys wanna do a petition I know everyone will sign it.
Remember Sierra and where that petition got put.
You can find the addresses to write to at http://207.234.193.168/

click on "news" and scroll down...there's even a sample letter there.
All of the fans need to stand together. The cast and JMS are counting on us.
What I've heard via my source is that if there is enough outcry, that TPTB will back off and let the cast remain in their roles, but there must be some outcry from fans.
And look at it this way, if we did nothing, then the film is most likely dead since JMS won't do it without the cast.
Write those letters and put out the word...let the Voice of the Resistence be heard!

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying any of this. JMS is a smart man, so if something this major was going on he'd find a way to get the word out (ie: very subtle wording, like the way he announced TMoS being a theatrical release). Until I see some ACTUAL confirmation, such as an official statement from JMS, the cast, or WB, I'm not doing squat. All I've seen is nothing more than rumor. Where is your supporting evidence to back up your claim?
Going after WB like a bunch of ravenous wolves will do nothing more than piss off WB and possibly hurt out chances of EVER getting anything B5 related ever again. They've been good to us so far, so why so little faith in WB?
We are trying to get our hands on copies to that naysayers can finally, once and for all, be convinced that a fight is needed here.
As for scripting in relation to casting...a film script is one of the earliest things to be done, especially in a franchise like B5. JMS turned in his script this last summer, but they had not begun final negotiations with everyone (which, BTW, can take a while).
I know this business, and believe me, such a late hour move by financiers or studios is not uncommon. Actually, it is the lateness of the move that often times makes it successful.
Not to mention, take a look at LOTR where two days prior to the start of principle photography Viggo Mortenson was brought on board to play Aragorn because Jackson decided right at the end to recast the actor who had been cast originally, Stuart Townsend.
Such moves are not surprising...that WB would choose to do it to B5 is.
Vertigo...you can agree with this or not, and trust me, positive letters showing support for the cast will in no way harm the project, but inaction will.
I tell you again, JMS will not be able to say or hint at anything without it coming back to bite him. Look to his obvious silence as the proof. If this were wild internet rumor...he would've shot it down by now.
Outright asked in private emails he simply won't respond, in the NGs he says nothing. Take that as you will.
Meanwhile we have three independent sources that have confirmed that the financiers are trying to strong-arm JMS into recasting. He and the cast need our outright support to let these financiers know that if they want TMoS to be a hit, then the cast has to stay.

Thats not really an accurate analogy, since #1 Jackson was Director & EP and had 100% creative control. and #2 Stuart Towensend was not already established in his role,
your analogy might fit if say, Stuart had done FOTR and TTT and then Viggo was brought in to replace him for ROTK

Naturally we are cautious to expend energy until we have some reassurances...
Cheers!
