IA and advanced tech

The MercifulThe Merciful Earthforce Officer
Did anyone else besides Earth Alliance get artificial gravity and other fancy tech like that as they joined EA. I recall, in the show it was made appear so that EA was a special case. If so, why did the others lacking AG tolerate this; if not, why was EA gettin AG given such an importance if every joiner got it. I'm mainly thinking of Narns.

If my memory serves me the Narn were going after the ISA to get artifical gravity, and other for the Bin'Tak Dreadnought.

I'm not sure there is a definite answer to this in canon.

When we were developing ITF this potential tension became central to our narrative.

There was discontent among the former League of Non-aligned Worlds. These relatively weak worlds felt that new technology, allowed them through becoming a part of the IA, was not being distributed quickly enough or fairly enough. They felt that the more powerful worlds, or worlds with a political "in" were getting preferential treatment. This discontent created a potential for dark forces to exploit in their covert effort to destabilize the IA.

It's never really discussed, but I would assume that eventually they all got it.

Damn, now I sorely miss B5:ItF again. I always felt there was something not quite right with that alliance...

Your right about something feeling not-quite-right. It could be that a husband and wife were President and VP, which is weird (by human standards anyway). It also could be that it seemed like the Humans and Minbari where the only ones in charge, almost to the point that they said to the other races, "You all aren't strong enough to take care of yourselves so we'll do it for you".

But back on topic.... One reason which came in my mind is, that other worlds were not advanced enough to handle artificial gravity, since as you might remember EA couldn't fully utilize it either. IIRC they managed to create only 0.9 gravity for the Excalibur and that was with the help of Minbari and a long research of AG already before they got it from Minbari. So that might've been one reason assuming that only EA got it. Though Narns, as I understand, were pretty much as advanced as humans as well, if not even more advanced.

It is possible that most species were not advanced enough for the tech, not because they couldn't handle it as such, but more because it wouldn't work with their technology. It would take considerable time to get it to work.

Yeah, that might be the case as well, or it could be both.

Well the ISA was definatlly levelling out jump-drive tech - we were told as much as that in "Sleeping in the Light" - Just before Sheridan jumped to Corianis 6.
