science fiction is really about surviving catastrophe, and is therefore optimistic - and the key to the genre is the longing for a sense of scientific community resembling the craft guilds of the past.
Interesting...

I spend a lot of time in thought over the idea of a coming apocalypse, and the results post apocalyptic.

I think other people verbalize it or write about it to process it. Take "The Post Man" for example.

You know, I think a lot of effort is put into escaping the real world and building your own based upon imaginary ones.

"The grass is always greener on the other side."

Unfortunately some people are enamoured by the concept of decay and destruction to the point of trying to cause the effect earlier than it will happen naturally.

Very interesting article, thanks for posting it. ;)

Interseting, very interesting. It makes sense in an "outside the box" way.

Looks like this applies to other things:

"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says: He is always convinced that it says what he means."

I have a personal experience with this & since then I have recovered my personal faith.

I've always thought something like the Seldon plan, that the individual has more of an effect than the group as a whole. If thats true though there are still many players some seen & unseen. I think in the future though as we slip into the Nano age the individual will no longer exist.

Sorry, it appears I now have a reputation to keep up due to the incident in Biggles thread. ;) :D
