know a good 3rd party scandisk app?

Ever since I upgraded to SP 2 everything has bitched on me. From CS-Diablo2 & now I wondering if I have bad sectors. I run CHKDSK restart & it continually locks up! Does anyone know a good third party scandisk application I can use?

Use the software provided by the hard drive manufacturer. That'll be the most reliable method.

Are you getting blue screens? If so, what error code does it generate? (the hexidecimal code is ESSENTIAL! If you leave it out, I cannot help you.)
• No it does not leave a blue screen it hard freezes & I cannot restart. I will something from Maxtor.com
• Before I do that though I just tried CHKDSK in the command prompt. No bad sectors showed however it reported an error in the volume bitmap & lost files.

Here's direct link to Maxtor's own testing tool:

Unfortunately their tool just looks like crap...
"PowerMax v 4.09 will not detect ATA or SATA hard disks connected to embedded or add in RAID controllers, NVIDIA Force 3, Force 4, VIA KT 600 and KT800 chipsets. If the hard disk is connected to an unsupported controller, it will have to be moved to an alternate system, or controller for diagnosis."
(and their still stuck with floppies)
• Can't even use it, I don't have a floppy drive to run the app off of.

If you have RWs you might want to try SeaTools, it boots from CD.
It could work with other drives than Seagates:
"Desktop edition works with most ATA, SATA, or SCSI drives in desktop systems"

Other good thing in it is it doesn't care where drive is, like is it connected to south bridge's ATA controller, integrated RAID controller or controller in expansion card.

WRONG!

It took me 30 seconds to dig up the ISO image. link

Its right there in the pulldown menu in the "Software Downloads" section.
