Verbal Indecision

I've had this problem for a while I don't quite say what I'm thinking or can't decide on the right thing to say in the here & now. Ten minutes later is another story heh. Anyone else have this kinda problem?

Today I was just randomly talking to my boss & I mentioned that alot of good people died...That it was weird that Rick James gets all this attention then just died...She steps over to another employee & whispered something. Pothead I think? I was infuriated for whatever reason & said absolutely nothing it was just...It was almost a fuck you without saying anything. It was a bizarre silence & it only broke when she had me do some inventory. I felt really bad after that. I don't know, whatever.

Pretty much the same thing here. For me, it's often made far worse by even the slightest anxiety, and either I can't get any coherent statements out, stutter madly, or just end up saying nothing (like during an important presentation) when things should be said...

Of course, practice and forcing akward situations on myself seems to help, but it's still tough.

And when I do say stuff, it's often very lame, unwitty. Seconds later, I can come up with something interesting, but blah. I just try not to speak ;)

I stutter alot (yet I want to be a teacher... go figure...), and I tend to babble, but I don't let it get in the way. That si what is important. One of the most popular and well liked people in my grade/middle/highschool was a guy who stuttered and was over weight. But he didn't let that get in the way of hsi self confidence.

Having been a teacher now for several years, I've had the benefit of ironing out my shortcomings. I still get flustered and blurt out something totally incoherent sometimes, but I'll just crack a joke about myself and get everyone laughing, which in turn helps me get past it.

My biggest problem for a while now is the realization that some of the wiring has been screwed up.

I'll say something, in my mind I said an meant something else, and only a while later realize that though I knew what I was thinking about, I ended up saying something else.

This happens in the opposite direction too. I'll see a number spelled out, say like Eighteen, in my mind I know it's 18, but I see it as Nineteen or some stupid thing like that.

That and the really crappy short term memory... I sometimes struggle to remember a name or term, yet I can visualize an icon of either with no problem...

    Totally frustrating...

I've got those little oddities in my head, too. It's a visual mindset, they say. I learn, think, and live visually. And when it comes to operating on more traditional terms? It's like scaling a mountain. And the memory, don't even get me started on that. My short term memory is god awful. I can't begin to count how many times I'll start on something and abruptly forget--or at least lose track of--some key portion of the task. It's not good at helping one be productive ;)

Though, this reminds me of a little event one of my professors mentioned...
He was in class, giving a presentation on seahorses. Lasted a good 45 minutes, and covered practically every aspect of their life. However, when he got back home that night, he realized that instead of calling them seahorses, he had called them whales (for the entire length of the lecture).
  • I have this problem where every sentence that escapes from my mouth is so perfectly constructed that people naturally assume I am a child prodigy and shower me with praise and affection.

Ummmm. I don't really have trouble expressing things (although I have a tendency to use words no one else understands :D), but I do often forget common words for no explicable reason... I'll be talking about, say, apples, and have to describe an apple to the other person because I can't quite remember what they're called.
  • Well glad im not alone here. Today she still seemed hostile, guess I give a bad vibe . Want to be an actor & I couldn't even say a damn thing. :D

Hey Jack ever hear of RAFT ? I figure if you live in Cali you'd know about it. Next time you need a computer check them they get donations from all brand name companies including laptops. Its a big warehouse in San Jose, they have 17" LCD monitors for $100 sometimes! Its exclusive to teachers though & you need to be there EARLY like 6 otherwise you miss the good stuff. Used to go up there with a science teacher, more of a mentor though. They fired him when he fell asleep in class from the oxicotin. (for his back)
