Home Cinema Projector Help

RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Hi everyone!
I'm currently planning to buy a projector soon (in the next few weeks possibly), but i'm not 100% informed in that topic.
Now from what i read, the best projection method would be DLP, while LCD is the more cheaper solution. Though with LCD, there might be color problems.

Now I would be using the Projector mainly to watch movies (maybe play the odd console/pc game with it once in a while), so i figured i'd take a 16:9 projector.
Thing is, i could get a 16:9 LCD Projector (Sanyo PLV-Z2, 1280x720 resolution) for just 1200€.
This is the cheapest for a projector with this resolution (there are 16:9 projectors with the odd 854x480 or 960x540).
I could get DLP projectors from 800€ up, but have only a 800x600 resolution.

Now I'm wondering: is the resulotion with DLP that important? should i go with the cheaper DLP, or with the higher res 16:9 LCD?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks

    i like the pretty colours....

Seriously tho, I don't know as much about the projection units, but everyone i know who has one says DLP is the best, I've also found out with many of the newer TV technologies, you really do get what you pay for, if you cheap out, you end up paying for it, You have to look at it a bit like you would if buying a car, If you have to spend a little bit more up front, but end up with a better product that will last you longer, then the initial extra purchase price was worth it.

Well, I'm not gonna use it to replace my tv...
And I don't want to spend huge amounts of money, as in a few years, the technology will probably have made huge progress.. (not like standard TV technology, which has been pretty much stable for the last few decades).

What i'd really like to know is, if 1280x720 LCD or 800x600 DLP is better for watching movies... (just think of beeing able to watch the LotR Trilogy with a beamer.. well, or B5 for that matter :) )

Well...my guess is that 800x600 should be enough for movies nowadays...The resolution on a DVD is afterall not more than 740 (or around there) x something.

So no need for 1024 if you are not going to watch HDTV...

hm... ya know, that's a point that didn't come to my mind... thanks :)

I have an lcd projector and the only thing i find is that it isn't bright enough so i suggest getting something with a high lumens rating.
but plug in the playstation and 2 player games are excellent!

Thanks. What rating does your projector have?

    800 (if I remember rightly, it's been a while)
1024*768. Widescreen films look ok but I do have to adjust the image to make full use of the screen.

If I ever make enough money to buy all the toys I want (Ha! like there's enough money for that!) I'd get one of these: http://www.cdfreaks.com/news2.php?ID=9984 in addition to a decent projector

    Thanks for all the help.
    I just bought a panasonic PT-AE500 E (LCD, HDTV).
Now all I need is a screen to project images on (I'll get one on wednesday)
