The last time humans crossed space to a destination was the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. In the 32 years since, no man has seen, with his own eyes, Earth as that beautiful, solitary blue sphere, and - reality check - no woman has ever seen it at all. We've been only to low Earth orbit since 1972, and from that altitude of 220 miles, looking at the 7,900-mile-diameter Earth is like peering at a basketball with your cheek pressed against it. Yes, you'll see curvature, but you're not seeing the whole thing. We've spent 32 years "exploring space" in low Earth orbit. Exploring nothing. To stay in orbit you have to go 17,000 mph, or Mach 25. So we've spent three decades going nowhere fast.
That's exactly what I thought. This article is from the December issue of Wired, which Cameron guest-edited. The entire issue is about exploration stuff.
Maybe he expected to die and then wouldnt have to film that crappy script.
Earth needs more people like him.
Thanks for posting that article.

This just gave me a load of respect for the guy. :D
now, maybe he can convince hollywood to make a Doom3 movie, but that he'll have to go to mars to get a feel for the place before he can film it. :D
;)
he reminds me of me... but with access to millions of dollars..:D
Hold on there...
He voted for Bush you know...

It'd rock if that worked. :D
Not really if you take a look at the trend set for movies based off of video games. Remember "Wing Commander" and "Super Mario Brothers"? ;)
Umm...Sally Ride was the first american female into space. I think its safe to say that she saw it. Then theres Kathy Sullivan was the first american female to walk in space. Something tells me she saw it too.

Read what he said again:

The Earth isn't a solitary blue sphere when you're looking at it from orbit. It's half your view. Last time I checked, no woman had left low earth orbit, only the men who went to the Moon on the Apollo missions.
EDIT: And True Lies, which was just brilliant
