Firstones.com Webspace
OK, I'm too lazy to type stuff twice, so I've just duplicated what I posted on the front page here. Enjoy, post comments, etc.
We here at your favorite website have come up with a new and wonderful way to raise money for the site: Selling webspace with a firstones.com subdomain! Things we are considering as part of the packages are:
[*]An @firstones.com email address (you know you want one!)
[*]A forwarding address
[*]Extra emails at a discount
[*]An image hosting account (small capacity, low cost)
[*]Homepage space (10-20MB)
[*]A ready-to-go weblog thingy (like the .plan files we have for the ex-devs and staff here)
[*]FTP access to your webspace
Pricing hasn't been decided on yet.
Currently we're looking at deciding on what kinds of packages to offer and what should be in each. Email any ideas or opinions on what you would want from your webspace to me or Sanfam, or post them to this thread on the forums.

seriously though its a great idea and its gonna make big money.
Great idea Biggles!!! Should bring in some revenue alright! I doubt I'd join up though, I have 4 email accounts and as a result 4 email adresses already... and as for web storage, I've got a whole server free that I can abuse at work....

Yeah thats pretty much the boat i'm in, i've already got too many email addresses, and i've got 9 gigs of webspace sitting to my right here at home.
You could use a forwarding address to create one static account that would send mail to an existing account. If the account is removed, you could just tell the forwarding account to point to the new address.

Also, what web/appserver is firstones.com hosted on, and what does it support, aside from cgi and ssi? (jsp/asp/etc..)
Can we the offers Septerat from the package, Let just say that i want teh Email address and umage hosting account??? or do i ahev to get the package or some thing???
Can't wait to see the prices
Chad: Well, we'd have single-item options, but also package deals that would save a bit (As expected. )
also, what would you think of home.firstones.com for a subdomain, and folders within this as being the place. for the image host, I'm investigating a web-based file uploading system, so one does not need to FTP in to upload images.

Howdy guys....

Hi Striker.
If you are running hosting on linux, I'm assuming it's Apache, maybe heavily customized, but Apache, most likely... Jakarta is another part of the Apache project (yes, it involves a lot more than just a web server)... and Tomcat, a very cool servlet container (with JSP support) is a part of Jakarta. So, are you running on a pure Apache webserver, or have you integrated it with Tomcat, for JSP support?
The combination of Apache, Tomcat, and mySQL opens up all sorts of possibilities, especially if I can do domain hosting.

Evening:
Yes, we run a modified version of Apache, however, we do not run "Tomcat". We may look into using it later though.

PHP 4 + At least 3 MySQL DB's
Domain Hosting
About 500mb
I also need to be able to offer sub-domains.
Thanks!
James
Well Sanfam and I have discussed numerous ways to offer web hosting. Basically, firstones.com will offer e-mail accounts (and e-mail only packages) and small (in features that is) plans. It would be something like http://home.firstones.com/yourname....that hasn't been decided on yet.
For the more advanced features like mySQL, etc...you would have to sign-up with RadiusCo Web, our company. =)
A portion of your money would be donated to firstones.com to help pay their costs. There would be a firstones.com only discount for our packages. More info on this soon. =)
====
PHP and Perl are allowed. We include raw logs and webalizer stats for our domain users.
====
Cptwhite:
Space is not a problem, but there is bandwidth that must be paid for. You would have to give me an estimate of the amount of bandwidth you would pull per month.

If you could e-mail me at chase@radiusco.com with specific details on what you would like, I would be more than happy to give you a quote.

What about Perl modules? Let's say I need SOAP::Lite or DBD-x... what then?
Also would there be special rates for those pay annualy vs monthly?
Number of FTP accounts?
Bandwidth limit?
