It's not a fun situation to be in the middle of the fucking road with the engine going into warp speed out of your control.

I have to admit, though, that that car looks very much like a boy racer car, and they arn't the best of drivers in my experience. But when your car breaks while moving fast, everyone's in the same boat car.

The reason he is an idiot, is he is a 16 year old kid, who was speeding to begin with. The throttle on his car does have a recall on it, however, as evidence by other people with the same car, it gets stuck, not continue to accelerate, meaning it got stuck at the speed at which he was driving (considering the damage about 65-75mph).
Other people who know the area have since come and photographed the scene, given us a drive by video of the road. He was going to fast to make the turn to the right which would have saved himself and the car.
Its really just the story of a stupid kid, driving a car he has no business driving. It had way too much horsepower for a 16 year old boy to drive.
the kid was in two previous accidents, one was possibly acceptable as not at fault, the other involved him tailgating an excursion.
He was driving a stick shift Subaru WRX, and says that, while driving 30 down a residential streed in third gear, the throttle got stuck wide-open and he flew uncontrollably into this person's house. At the same time, he claims he tried to turn away and avoid it, however, the forum visitors cited evidence disproving that claim, as he clearly went straight into the house.
The problem is...(confirmed by my roomate who has the same car) the car itself would have been at just about 1050 RPM in third gear at 30 mph. Those engines lug like mad, and to go wide-open throttle would have meant bogging it down for countless seconds (no formal counts, but think 15 seconds to get to 80). During that time, he claims he couldn't think of anything to do not to crash, however...it would have taken 10-15 seconds to even get close to the house, and in that time, could have steered himself down the street. Estimated distances from when his car went wide-open to collision are 770-ish feet, I believe. In addition to this, he claims the turbo "engaged" the moment the throttle got stuck, which is contrary to the way turbos work (especially on that car :D). Were he running 2500+ RPM, then it would be a reasonable situation.
Once it hit the house, he says it got un-stuck, so it's not a problem with the cable breaking. Rather, to get it stuck at wide-open throttle with the symptoms he described, he would have to be running wide-open throttle, which at the gear he suggested would be bogging like mad.
So, general concensus is, he's entirely at fault for driving too damned fast on a residential road, not the car or the road or the house for being in his way.

Jack: That can suck quite a bit. One of my friends had his RX-7 accidentially break its throttle return spring last year in a parking lot as he was pulling out, and almost hit another (parked) car while trying to figure out what was going on. Needless, it was an interesting week for him.

I hate the damn things even more than the hundreds of luxury SUVs and pickups that are running around here, particularly since the brats who drive 'em WILL drive like idiots if they can get away with it (and they usually do, since we don't have anywhere near the number of cops needed to catch the little s**ts:mad: ).

If his turbo kicked in at 12mph, he would've had to be hitting some serious rpms. :P Now what does that tell you? ;)
That little ricer shit should have his ass thrown in jail for a few months, and have to pay for EVERYTHING out of his own pocket. I'd suggest having him repair the damage he did, but knowing how he is, he'd intentionally screw things up. With three accidents in three months on his record, he'll be lucky to even get insurance let alone another driver's license (which I'm sure is revoked by the state by now).
Going 30mph in 3rd gear? B.S. the rpm rate will be at the low 1000's. Even flooring the gas the car would struggle slowly to gain speed starting from such a heavy gear. The turbo kicking in? No way, the turbo doesn't kick in hard on that car until it reaches nearly 5000rpm. Basically you need to be driving it hard for that (redline is just over 6K).
Problem is simple, daddy bought his boy too fast a car.

Another note on the WRX. The brakes on that car are REALLY powerfull and they WILL overpower a wide open throttle quite easily.

Oh, he also claims he worked three (I think) jobs to buy the car, and has spent his entire life thus far on the vehicle(s, possibly) he's owned and wrecked, and paid for them himself. He also explicitly states that he doesn't have friends, and he changed his position on why he was driving on that street, anyhow (a friend just happened to be playing basketball on that sidestreet, who later it turns out wasn't a friend, but a casual acquaintance).

Yeah, exactly. Even the dumbest should do it automatically without even thinking when something like that happens.

VIH: True, but have you ever seen SUVs weave in and out of traffic and cutting right in front of trucks and buses (as in within less than one foot from the front bumper or left fender) while traveling more than 20 mph faster than the surrounding traffic (which is often moving faster than 40 mph) several times a day? At least the SUV drivers around here are more likely to only get [U]themselves[/U] into an accident; these friggin' boy racers (or "fanboy/wannabe"racers, if ya know what I mean;) ) are far more likely to get into a pileup with other drivers (unfortunately, that usually [I]isn't[/I] likely to result in said racer's vehicle becoming a fancy truck/bus bumper or hood ornament, though I'm sure there are a lot of folks who wish it were otherwise...:D ).
People regularly perform blind four lane changes at Limit+30/40 using clearly unstable vehicles. It's absolutely insane. Every time I'm driving there, I fear for my damned life, because I'm worried someone is going to miss by an inch or two. I don't get why people feel comfortable doing this sort of thing, especially in a vehicle which has 10-25 degree blind spots on their rear quarters...

here in germany you must be 18 before you can make a driving license and drive a car.....

The dude got written a ticket for "failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle". When I got run off the road and got stuck in the ditch a little over a year ago because the bus coming at me took the corner too fast and was in my lane(about 4 feet into my lane), the State Trooper that responded wrote me the same ticket and I live in VA like him too and that is considered "wreckless driving" and you lose 6 points on your license, I was like wtf we he wrote that on me and the county cop was looking at the Trooper like wtf. At least the judge I went before in court had some common sense and through my case out. This dude is screwed though since he had way more than enough time to react if his story is anywhere close to true.
Biggles: we've got similar requirements here in New Mexico. Trouble is, there's no practical way to enforce those requirements (not enough cops, for one thing) nor are there many parents who really seem to care if their kids [I]do[/I] know how to drive safely (no surprise there, since most adults here don't seem able to drive worth a damn anyway).

Holy moly...I love it! Me and a friend somehow blew away 8 hours of last minute project time by opening it up and...just...mindlessly enjoying ourselves for hours trying to beat the other racers, upgrading our car and slowly building a collection :D
I'd never really thought much of NSF:Underground 1...but this one is just fantastic. It's so damned fun. go play it.
