I don't... I think this does pave the way for more fruitful peace negotiations, but I do not wish anyone dead. That is inappropriate in my opinion.

You and I know A2597 that there will never really be peace until Christ comes and resolves it, but the effort that is made regardless will temper the character of many of those who try, and is worth the attempt.

Good riddance to that son of a bitch.

the israelis havent been exactly saints themselves:rolleyes:

frankly, ive more sympathy with the palestinians, tho i dont agree with some of their methods
• I never wish death on anyone, but there are people on this planet to which I can say "Good riddence"

Yassir Arafat is one, Yuday and Quisay Saddam were others....

Yassir spoke of peace while telling people to strap on explosives. He was a hypocrite. And why anyone sans those brainwashed under his rule would morn his passing is beyond me.

A2597 - you forget that he was very well liked in the Arab regions. While I agree he was at the end an obstructionist, for a good while he made positive strides. But one can never forget that he came originally from a terrorist background. Why was he well liked? Becuase he came from a freedom fighter background as the palestinians saw. What you fail to realize is that who we call terrorists, Arabs call freedom fighters. This is one of the core roots of the problem with a war on terrorism - how to get the populations of the middle east to recognize terrorism as something that is bad. Hell...bin Laden polled better then 50% in the middle east...Bush polled under 25% in every country...with some he polled under 10%! There is something wrong when terrorists poll better then those fighting terrorism. This is something we desperately need to change to have any hope of winning the war on terror.

Arafrat was not über bad.. He did do some good...

I have to agree with A2597 and JackN, while I would never wish death on anyone, I think that his death will (in the end) be a great turning point in Israili-Palestinian relations. Arafat simply would not allow peace. If there was peace, he would lose his power. Brainwashing children to commit suicide bombings is pretty sick. I have a friend who lives in Israel, and when I met him and talked to him it made me sick to think of the fear that kids over there have to live through (my friend is the same age as I am, 17, so I guess young adults). Im not saying that Israel is innocent, but you dont hear about Sharon brainwashing kids to go blow themselves up on busses filled with innocent people...

Do not confuse a cult of personality, which is what arafat had crafted around himself as anything more then it is. After all, Mao and Lenin and Hitler all created such phenomenons and they are all going to go down in history as people the world could have rather done without.

Anyways to show how superficial the whole "palestinian freedom fighting" movement is watch a civil war errupt in their territories over power.

you know, they say that Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize. What they dont tell you is he had a gun to their heads to get it...

Arafat rose to power using terrorism and murder to get what he wanted. The Isralies may not be saints, but Arafat isnt far from the antichrist. It is my hope that someone that actually desires peace will take his place.

• Finally now maybe the Israelis will stop making that stupid wall.

I hope not. They need that wall to keep the Palastinian suicide bombers OUT.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
keeping suicide bombers out, good.

keeping good standing normal Palastinians trying to find work and live a good life, bad.

They need peace, compromise and understanding not a wall.
• peace...in the middle east?

Heh, not in this life!
• with Arafat gone it is now possible to negotiate on realistic terms. The Israelis would not deal with Arafat & Arafat would not deal with the Israelis. Time to end this pointless conflict not inflame one that could span globally. There can be peace & Im sure some day there will be. The arabs are the way they are today because of the abuse of many imperialist powers, the Ottomans, & The British specifically not just Islam itself. The feelings were already there they just needed an output for there feelings. Now they need something to replace it. Like SEX I think ya dump a shitload of porn on the entire region I think it would really make em forget about all that other Jihad crap.

I got an Idea!
• Just for the record: it's not funny, Simmonds. It has never been funny.
• hate so say it, but if the entire middle east was turned into a slate of glass, it WOULD be peaceful....
• PJHPJH The Lovely Thing
I usually wouldn't like to wish anybody's death either, but now that Arafat is dead all the Middle East needs is that jewish sionist nazi murderer Ariel Sharon and his buddies to meet the same destiny ASAP and they might actually have a tiny small change to achieve a piece in that region some day in the future. Maybe.

Sure...the wall worked well in Berlin...

Should have thought someone learned not to do something like that again...
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
You're forgetting who built that wall, and why. The Israel-Palestine wall is being built to keep people out. The Berlin wall was built to keep people in. There is a rather substantial difference.

If the wall prevents terrorists from entering Israel and there is a sharp drop in attacks because of it, it will have been a good idea, and I will applaud the Israelis for finding a solution that did not involve rolling over Palestinian cities with their tanks.

I regard it as far more likely that the wall will simply be a major nuisance to those with legitimate reason to move through it; the terrorists will find other ways.
• E.TE.T Quote-o-matic
During the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, while Ariel Sharon was Defense Minister, the Sabra and Shatila massacre took place, in which between 460 and 3500 Palestinian civilians in the refugee camps were killed. The local population had been assured by the United States and Israel that they would be safe there...
The Kahan Commission investigating these massacres recommended in early 1983 the removal of Sharon from his post as Defense Minister for "indirect responsibility" in the massacre, stating that the "Minister of Defense [Sharon] bears personal responsibility".

On June 18, 2001, relatives of the victims of the Sabra massacre began proceedings in Belgium to have Ariel Sharon indicted on war crimes charges. In June 2002, a Brussels Appeals Court rejected the lawsuit because the law was subsequently changed to disallow such lawsuits unless a Belgian citizen is involved. Elie Hobeika, the Phalangist commander who ordered the massacres, offered to go to Brussels, possibly to testify against Sharon, but he was assassinated by car bomb shortly thereafter.
(coincidence?)

Stranger things have happened. Remember, improbable doesn't mean impossible.

Now that Assafat is pushing up daises, people just might start going for the tables and *gasp* discuss a peace treaty.

Two points I'd like to make

1) A#, you misspelled Arafat's name.

2) I would side with Israel in this conflict any day of the week. Just imagine what would happen if Mexico declared a jihad on the US. How long do you think it'd take before all people from central-America (and anyone else with a funny accent just to be on the safe side) would be deported or put into camps, and how long after that before Mexico is either invaded or nuked?

Most of the world has no sense of perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and some of the countries that try to speak up are so biased it's pathetic (because of large arab populations due to immigration -- people who are sometimes less than willing to integrate into their new society, but instead try to change the society to fit their beliefs).
• Lord RefaLord Refa Creepy, but in a good way
Too bad the rest of the arabs didnt follow their terrorist leader this time.

Luckily they did use that old "shoot the guns at the sky" thing, which got some of the darwin award winners hospitalised.

Anyway.. I put the islam yahoos into the same category as gypsies and psycho christians.
