    Wow. Neat.

Wonder what other elements of the brain have evolved into other sensory methods. ESP?

Yeah. I find it interesting to think that the eye basically started out as a way to respond to the changing daylight levels, and then probably moved on to a way to detect light and dark areas (many species use this today), and from that gradually moved to full-blown vision.

My great^1000000 cousin is a Sea Worm?

    (Cute little fellow though...) :D

I think it's a stretch in the interpretation with just one molecule.

Either evolution is right, or something genetically designed many creatures from the same basic plans...

    ;)

Not really that much of a stretch at all. We're not talking about something like CO2 here.

humans still have cells IN the brain that are light sensitive, they form a large part of the pineal gland, which is somehow related to the seasons, I can't remember exactly, basically it helps you stay in tune with the seasons via daylight and consequence the length of each day, so you know when winter is coming etc. It's the part of the brain that responds to light therapy in people who have 'cabin fever'.

Remember folks that your head/skull isnt totally opaque. Strong light will go through the thinner sections of your skull and strike your brain directly. Really... technically speaking, they eyes ARE part of the brain, just very evolved bits of organic tech... I guess that explains the old adage about the eyes being the windows to the soul.... you're looking at someones mind quite directly.
