The way Scifi does things, on the second half of the airing schedule after a hiatus, the UK crowd gets atleast a couple of weeks ahead of the US for the rest of the season. After that, we're ahead of them for a couple of weeks. Stupid scheduling isn't it?

downloaded it, and really liked it...

For a Star Trek writer, Im really impressed with Ron Moores version of Gallactica. The characters are also VERY well played. Mary McDonnell subtracting numbers from the whiteboard, very intense scene.

I completely agree. Especially when she added one.

Just got done watching this....WOW!! Is all I can say!!

Speaking as one from the Generation that watched the original BG firstrun, there is no comparison between this and the original series. The writers have worked overtime on this one.

I'm so hooked.

Gentlemen, we are in an excellent era.

Oh and the Farscape mini rocked too....:)

Lets hope the new Dr. Who is good too.

Bless Torrents....:)

Yes, he wrote Star Trek, but keep in mind which Star Trek: he's one of the main reasons DS9 kicked so much ass.

Saw it... meh. There were some nice moments, but that whole Baltar and his hallucinogenic psilon ex-lover routine irritated me to no end.

I just hope its better than the bastardization that was the mini-series.
• I finally finished pulling the episode. I enjoyed it. I'm definately gonna follow this series.

I got bad news for you Vertigo, if you didnt like the mini, dont bother with the series, it will just piss you off. Been in a heated argument on trekweb about this for about 3 days now.

got one crazy on there that wont admitt when hes wrong**

** Note: Im not trying to tell him he wrong on his own like/dislike of the show, he hates it, not trying to change his mind. Just trying to explain to the self proclaimed satelite tv thief that 4 million viewers on a cable network is an excellent night. But he seems to believe that well, everyone has cable and everyone has sci fi, and 4 million viewers is nothing bigger than a s3 episode of enterprise. He doesnt believe me that sci fi is not part of the basic cable lineup everywhere. Of course this is same person who called us all dipshits because we werent born before 1978 and did not see BSG in its initial run.

I'm always amazed at how many people don't understand that just because THEY didn't like something, it doesn't mean nobody else can like it...

Huh... I personally loved the mini-series. I thought it was extremely well done.

I think it works better if you separate it in your mind from the original series; this is really only the same story in broad strokes only, not in the details.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
I totally agree.

Its the same basic story, same concept just updated and done with a more serious tone. Not to say that the original wasnt serious, this one is just darker.

Its the sopranos of Sci-Fi TV. :)

I just didn't like all the changes they made. They turned Starbuck into just short of Jack Chick, Boomer from the token black guy into some cylon that looks like an asian chick, took Apollo and turned him into a clone of Marky Mark (I wonder how many people will catch that ref...) and they totally lost the cool weapon sound effect of the viper! ;) I can live with the RCS thruster thing since it is space combat, and the flying like airplanes thing wouldn't work realisitically. If I hadn't been a fan of the original, I *might* like it better. Hell, I taped it for my father (since he was actually around when it originally aired) and he didn't like it at all. If you ask me, its just another part of the "lets take something really old, revise it a little, throw in a few token women with skin-tight uniforms, load it up with CGI and toss it out" syndrome thats been plagueing the movie industry for the past decade. You just can't improve on an original. (Updating the graphics is one thing, but totally re-writing it is another thing entirely.)

I'll watch the first season of BSG and atleast give it a shot. Just to be fair. I may end up liking it, and I may not. I just hope they decide NOT to rip off the original series by re-doing the same old episodes.

I liked the mini series and this first episode. I plan to keep watching.

It had me wanting to play homeworld before the opening credits came up.

And I agree that the Cylon in the guy's head is a bit over done but it could go somewhere interesting.

You'd be right, except if you go to the site for the mini on sci-fi, Ron Moore talks about how he's trying to reinvent sci-fi - not with the women in skin-tight uniforms or with the CGI - but with the writing. The women and CG are probably there to make the Sci-Fi execs think it's a good show; viewers like us see it for what it is.

BTW, it's nice to see the BSG tradition continued - re-used effects shots!

And as long as the Number Six/Baltar thing isn't sex every episode, or doesn't turn into a Harvey ripoff, I think it could work.

Argh.. 2 people with the same name arguing... i think my head's going to explode...
• MundaneMundane Elite Ranger
I am not entirely convinced about this series after two episodes...
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Battlestar Galactica (the new series) might not be anywhere near as good as shows like Babylon 5 or Farscape but there is one thing to keep in mind though:

Compared to the two other starship based shows (that would be Enterprise and Andromeda) currently running, BSG is the best of the three and so I hope they keep making it at least until something else comes along.

I was old enough to see the original Star Wars during it's first run in theaters...I also was a huge fan of Galactica as a kid.

That said, looking back and actually *watching* Galactica again, I thought it was, well, a bit corny...not nearly as much as Buck Rogers (oh, that is just PAINFUL to watch), but still, well, corny...not because of the plot, but because of some of the acting. Mostly from the Baltar character.

Ironically, I thought one of Galactica's best episodes was actually from Galactica 1980....the episode where Starbuck's viper and a cylon ship crashed on a planet, and we had the whole "Enemy Mine" thing going.

Now, with the remake, I think we have something along the lines of S:AAB and DS9...something dark. Something that has real drama, rather than something that feeds purely on the FX crew. I didn't know that Galactica's writer was the lead for DS9's staff until recently, and I now understand why I liked it so much. I can't wait for the episodes to start. I like the changes, and I like how they integrated the good parts of the old series into a more dark, serious drama that should appeal to people beyond the "fanboy" base. The character interaction was *fantastic* from the get-go, something that B5 and TNG struggled their entire first seasons to balance into a decent modus opperandi. The cast is strong, and they definitely play well off each other. I like how they make Baltar more of a tragic pawn as opposed to the (all too typical) power-hungry mad scientist.

And the FX were great. I wasn't sure I'd like the "realistic" silent dogfigts, but they work exceedingly well, and the newtonian physics made my heart soar. Even the minimalist soundtrack fit it well. Adding to that the "update" to the cylons, and the dynamic that whole aspect represents, well, I just think it will make for some great drama.

Don't underestimate it. I believe it will be a real winner for SciFi...perhaps even moreso than SG1.

-R.
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
My thoughts exactly, though I would have preferred truly silent space scenes, as in Firefly. Dunno if a dogfight would work for that, though.
• MundaneMundane Elite Ranger
Well.. S:AAB is maybe the worst scifi show I have ever seen...
