Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise - Every firstone should watch this movie, it's all about the early days of space flight. I don't care if you think "cartoons are only for kids" or not. Judging a movie based solely on its medium is pathetic, so watch it anyway.
Amilee - Damn good movie, among the best.
Wonderful Days - Some of the prettiest special effects you'll ever see, utilising real models, CGI and hand drawing.
Chicken Run - What can I say? It's halirious.

Australia doesnt make too many duds...

though some you may have to adjust your brain for the vernacular

try :

The Dish
The Castle
The Year my voice broke
Priscilla Queen of the Dessert
Proof

theres also 'Leon' or as its known in the US 'The Professional', an action flick with a soul. (Not an AU product before someone decides to knitpick me)

Just dont expect some sort of action flick or vapid story from anything Aussie. Most Aussie stuff of any quality is deep and rich in character and story rather than effects and budget. Even the original Mad Max was low budget even if it was 'light' on story.

And I must agree with the Leon coments. Absolutely one of the best films ever.

Other foreign films I have heard good things about are
The Hidden Fortress. A japanese film that George Lucas has said was a great infulence to him during the produciton of Star Wars

and Das Boot - A German film about the crew of a U-Boat during WWII.

I knew what he said and choose to ignore it in favor of stating movies that are good in general, regardless of nationality as that makes no difference if a movie is good or not.

Shadow: saw The Castle a while ago.

Hilarious low budget comedy :D

Oh, right, my suggestion is Hero, preferably the DVD translation.

Shower also comes to mind, for entirely random reasons.

• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Rogue Trader, I'm noticing a severe lack of Charlie Kaufman!

Being John Malkovich
Adaptation
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind.

also, while not immensely deep, "Men in Black" (It's still one of the best)

And where's the Godfather (not 3)?

Otherwise, a very complete list :D

And i agree with you on a great number of those movies oyu have listed - especially Chasing Amy as KS's best.

But your list is also missing Braveheart (IMO) a very excelent film.
• I really liked this German movie As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me, which told a story about a German soldier fighting every inch of his way to get back home alive from a Siberian forced labor camp after the Second World War.
• WORFWORF The Burninator
28 Days Later or if you're looking for something with a bit of comedy, Shaun of the Dead (yes, I know they're both zombie movies but they're good).

Terminator isnt his best by far. Its really not that original(he was sued by Harlan Ellison hence why he now has that credit). Not saying it isnt good, its fantastic, but not his best. True Lies and Aliens and even Titantic are better because he grew as a filmmaker.

And The Hidden Fortress IS star wars. they are so similar he practically ripped them off. and made a better movie :)

I though The Abyss had to many antagonists. I mean it had aliens threatening to wipe out the human race and it had crazy military guys with nukes.

Titanic seemed to me to much of a ripoff of A night to Remember. (Apparently Cameron has a nack for this)

I was not aware True Lies was a Cameron film however.(Havn't seen it in years) but yes, it is a great film.

And I have to refrain from calling Aliens his best (though I love the movie on its own) because I always thought the Queen was a stupid idea. I much prefered the engineered bio weapon feel of Dan O'Bannon's/Ridley Scott's original Alien concept. Especially with the people being turned into eggs for the next generation. Interesting little factoid though, rumor has it James Horner said he would never work with Cameron again after Aliens. oops.

Oh, and another source of "Inspiration" for Star Wars was a series of books called the Lensmen books. It has people able to access a hidden energy field to manipulate one's evironment.

I just watched Jisatsu Sakuru today, It was a great movie, but rather depressing at times. I wonder if theres going to be an "American Version" made.....
• shadow boxershadow boxer The Finger Painter & Master Ranter
'True Lies' is am americanised rip off of a French Film, whose name escapes me. The original is better... less RAHRAHRAH, more character/s.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
ya james cameron ha never been all that original.

The funny thing about that comment is that they did work together, so james horner is a LIAR!
• yes, hence the oops
