I don't. I smell beating MS to the punch. This is supposed to be a major feature of Longhorn, and that's not going to make it to shops for another 2 years at least.

It'll also be in the next Macintosh operating system upgrade, Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger. They call it "Spotlight". The part I liked the most is how it used some sort of fuzzy logic thing to figure out what you meant when you don't get the terminology quite right. For instance, if a former Windows user was looking for how to change his "wallpaper", it would bring him to the desktop pictures control panel, despite the actual panel having no mention of wallpaper on it.

Oh, you know that the tool can send the index data back to google? You know that the tool can act as a server for others to connect?

Oh, and it is a beta, of course they are targetting the most used programs first.

And you know that it's EXTREMELY clear that you can opt out of it being capable of doing that either during the install, or any time after?

They state it's capabilities *VERY* clearly.

And given that it's most likely to be downloaded by geeks, the group most likely to be using Firefox/Thunderbird... why IE/Outlook?

"Oh, you know that the tool can send the index data back to google?"

As does firefox/netscape, windows, and many other programs. This program makes it uber uber clear.

"You know that the tool can act as a server for others to connect?"

I have seen nothing about this.
