GeForce 4 TI 4200?

JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
What do you guys think of this card for $59.99?

I'm interested because it has DVI and 128 Megs... I could finally pull out my PCI secondary...

I got my GF4 Ti4600 (128 meg, w/DVI and s-vid out as well) for $120 shipped so thats an ok deal.

Well - I have the GeForce 4 TI 4200 64MB version (Abit manufactured mine).

I have had no problems with it. The 64MB ran a little fastre then the 128 MB version making it at the time I chose it the 3rd best graphics card.

However...by today's standards, it is pretty far down. When I got mine 2 years ago it ran about $120 for the 64MB and about $130 for the 128MB.

It still runs all games without problems - haven not yet had to drop graphics resolutions from 1280x1024 for any games.

Only thing: $60 seems a bit pricy for a 2+ year old card that only was selling then for double that.
  • alternativly, you could get a ATI 9550, 8x AGP, 128MB, with DVI/TV Out, 128MB, for $63

or a GeForce Fx 5500, with DVI, 128MB, and 8x AGP for $68
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-135-141&depa=0

or, if you want to splurge and spend $10 more, you could get the ati 9600, 128MB, 8x AGP, with DVI, for 70$

    :)

(Hey, I just like to view all my choices before purchasing anything, the GeForce 4 ti series IS a good series though!)

Last time I hit up Pricewatch, thats what a GF3 Ti200 64MB went for.

    $60 for a Ti4200 is a good deal.

A2597: The FX5500 is a POS. Its a hell of alot slower than the GF4. Hell, all of those cards are slower than the GF4. (atleast they're all slower than my Ti 4600)
  • Including the 9600?
    ;)

And this is the Geforce 4200, not 4600....

    Thanks for the input guys...

Now I have to make a decision soon, whether to get one while suppplies last, or wait and shop some more...

$60 is a lot easier for me to spend right now than $120...

    ;)

Well...you know...I have had 2 ATI cards: 1 video, 1 TV tuner. Both I have had nothing but trouble from.

So...thus why I go with nVidia now.

It always amuses me how having one single problem with a card from company is enough for most people to decide that that company is only ever going to produce problematic cards and never buy from them again.

Well, the point is moot at this time anyway...

    I've been laid off again...

Have 2 weeks of work to do left and I am left hanging until they have more work for me...

    Fuck I hate California...

I may disappear for a while here in a couple weeks... don't be suprised...:alien:

Oh, man, sorry to hear that. I've been laid off 4 times in the last 3 years. It sucks.

    Hope you find something soon!

    Erg. That sucks. :(
  • dang man...

if you have carpentry skills, come to florida! I swear, there are thousands of contractors down here, and every one is booked for at least a month in advance and having to turn down work.

Maybe they should wait for Jeane to make landfall...

Yeah, anyways, I get to telecommute for the next 2 weeks, and then I am out to dry, so I have a job search I should start doing here...

    If I don't post anything for a bit, it's nothing personal... ;)

    Yes, including the shitty 9600.

Naw, really? Try reading posts completely before replying in the future, mmmk?

Jack: Sorry to hear that bud. Hope everything works out ok.

    HOLY CRAP...
That is just unbelieveable. The 9600 Pro gets over 100, why on earth would the non-pro be so shitty?

I mean, the 9800 non-pro is just *slightly* slower then the 9800 Pro, and with a bios flash, it IS a 9800 Pro. I assumed the same was true for the 9600....

Why do you think the 9600 is so cheap? Its their equivilent of nVidia's MX line. I'm not saying its not a good card by any means, but its still a low-end card.
