Funky shit

Try this:

Get the latest version of Winamp.
Change your desktop background to use no image and a colour of (0,0,1) (almost black).
Go to the winamp visualisation plugins, select the AVS one, and go to its options.
Tell it to use a colour overlay and set the colour to (0,0,1).
Start some music (something with a good beat).
Run the plugin.
Enjoy.

  • I cant find the Colour Overlay Thingy
  • Winamp -> Visualizations -> Configure Plugin -> Top-left corner, click the little color box

Try spraypainting a black image with 0,0,1 for a bit, and then setting it as a tiled background. :D

All I get is an "About" box, no options to configure in the AVS options.

The options appear when you right click on the running visualiser and select "AVS editor."
  • Another thing you can do if you use a DIVX player is play movies onto your desktop. Not sure if I can remember how to do it off hand but ya can!
  • But when it comes down to it, you get the same thing by just selecting fullscreen... and you don't have icons in the way, either. :p
  • Sure but some people like to work AND play.

The point of this is that you can use it while you work over it.

But I do see your point.

You can also do cool stuff like, say, set it to your text colour, or the colour of dialog boxes and windows, or title bars.

you better have the processor power to pull it off too, or else be prepared for mr sluggy.

It's perfectly smooth on a 1.4GHz Pentium-M. It uses a hardware overlay to do it, so your video card is just as important as your processor (not 3D power, blit speed and things like that).
