Dude, the whole board interface can be changed. Even with an old version like 1.4 (which I ran on my site). Even on F2s's slow ass servers, it ran very well. It only took one second to load a thread, and thats while I was downloading music! (remember, I'm still using a 56k.) Thats faster loading time than ANY board I've been on. Thats gotta say something. As for the user control panel, you don't have to hack in people's ranks and stuff. That functionality comes [b]standard[/b]. Including the ability for rank images and such.
Did I mention that its free? [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/wink.gif[/img] Its basically a watered down version of vB. Has most of the functionality and none of the bloat.

ikonboard is actually beginning to grow on me a bit, i still think its ugly as sin, and that whoever designed the install procedure should be shot twice in the head.

all that goo with the unzipping it and then uploading things individually and chmodding, that could all be done with a perl script. i wonder why they use the braindead install routine that they do? it makes no sense to me.
Less effort for them, I guess. I'm just wondring, does your install of the board let you change the page background colorr successfully? I've repeatedly tried and have gotten nowhere. It's really the only major bug I had. Another issue I have is that I cannot edit the board files through FTP, as they were created by the board itself, and the file permissions (644) greatly hamper my meddling.

I've not gotten as far as playing with the colour settings (i can't even find the background settings to tell the truth)
I can see why it sets the permissions 644, but that does tend to be a pain, i usually do most of my editing using vi and ssh and not ftp.

So far, all that i can tell colour wise is that it has to be changed in the skin itself, i can't find anywhere to change the background colour, but i downloaded a skin with a black background, and it did change the background.

Ok, i changed the background, and it changes it on the page you get after makin any changes, (the one that says "returning you to the previous page), the background on that is black, but the board itself is still white.
I'm going to play around with the other settings and see if i can't figure it out.

well it must not like me either, Because i've changed every single FFFFFF to 000000 and STILL have a white background, so it MUST be set somwhere else. My next move is to change all the FFFFFF's in the CSS section to 000000 and see if that changes anything.

I GOT IT!
the background is NOT SET via the skin, its set via the board template.
go into "Edit Board Template" Edit the origional template, ad about halfway down you'll see the bgcolor set to #FFFFFF . Thats where the change gets made.

As far as i can tell, this is just another SNAFU like the install. the settings for the actual html is stored somwehere other than in the skin, and thus cannot be changed by the skin editor. One would think that all the colour change sections would be together. But you have to go into the board template to change the background colour for the webpage itself, all the colours inside the tables are detrmined via the CSS in the skin.
Also, notice at the bottom of the FO Ikonboard, there are 3 iB logos, there is text down there thats the same color as the background (with the FO Classic skin) i ran into this problem when i changed my background color on the default skin, i can't find where to change text color, you'd think it would be settable in the board template, i tried setting a text= line there, but i think it gets overridden somwhere else, and i can't seem to find where. oh well, time to keep hacking at it.

ikonboard is actually beginning to grow on me a bit, i still think its ugly as sin, and that whoever designed the install procedure should be shot twice in the head.
but the functionality seems to be very good.
The only problem I'm having right now is revolving around the page background.
I might re-install it soon due to a primary install glitch.

So far, all that i can tell colour wise is that it has to be changed in the skin itself, i can't find anywhere to change the background colour, but i downloaded a skin with a black background, and it did change the background.
The options are in the "Edit Skin Properties" section of the menu. They're in the "Global Colors" tab in that menu.
