TBP 2.0 multiplayer weapon screen not showing weapons selection

MR DMR D Earthforce Officer
Hi All,

I have an issue with getting the multiplayer working.

In weapon loadout, there is no weapons displayed, In other words their empty, and therefore i cant play the multiplayer game.

I'm stuck i cant get this to work, the only success i had with multiplayer is when i installed TBP ver 1 the earth minbari war,
Only the first mission works,
thats the one protecting the transport. The others were the same as TBP ver 2

I am running windows xp, and this is what i did to install mod:

# Install Freespace 2 and install latest official Freespace 2 patch.
# Install The Babylon Project Release 2 to the folder you installed Freespace 2 (default: C:\Games\Freespace 2).
# Install released The Babylon Project patches.
# Launch Freespace 2.
# Select a campaign which works with The Babylon Project Release 2. (Note: Main FS2 campaign is selected by default.)
# Play.

Again single player is working fine, it's multiplayer thats giving me the headaches

Help ....

Mr D

Multiplayer has never been a big priority in TBP, maybe it gets more attention with R3 however as there is now a replacement to PXO server available.

Sounds like a mission problem to me, if you don't know how to modify missions, you can't fix it. Officially R2 will no longer be updated, you can still ask someone to update the multiplayer missions. I for one I am too busy with R3 to do that.

However, I would like to point you to official TBP forums instead of asking TBP related questions here where it might not be answered.

There are also several new screenies showing up Warlock and a few new weapon effects.

    Hi Mr fury

Apologies again for being a pain. So to get it working you need to do some programming?

I wouldn't mind to know how to do this. has it got something to do with extracting the .vp files?

The multiplayer TBP v1.1 has 1 mission that does work, and it shows it as a bab5 mission to.
I noticed all the other ones had to do with freespace itself, and these I'm guessing why it doesnt work.

It would be great to lan up a few space crazy fans in bab5 universe.

Again thanks for your time in responding, at least im getting somewhere with this. Can't wait till R3 is out, I hope lan multiplayer will be included.

    All the Best

FS2 multiplayer missions won't work when you have TBP installed.

To extract .vp files, you need Descent Manager Freespace kit.
    http://www.descent-network.com/cgi-bin/descmankit.cgi?kit=fskit

After you have extracted missions, open FRED2 and modify available weapons in the missions and save.

    No programming involved.

And of course R3 will have multiplayer, the thing is that when there will be multiplayer missions. I can only guess, we're focusing on single player campaigns only. Don't worry though, I am sure some multiplayer missions will pop-up every now and then after R3 is out.

Thanks Mr Fury, You have been very helpful, I guess I'll stick with the first TBP for that one multiplayer mission.

The Mimbari war missions in single player blew me away.
I'd like to say thanks to all those people out there in the sci fi community who have done a great job in bringing us closer to B5.

    It's like a life of it's own.

    cheers

I just hope you have the hardware to run R3 in its full glory. :)
You wouldn't believe what FS2 engine is still capable of doing after all those years.

No kidding. There are some mods for FS2 Open that bring my Athlon XP 2800+ and GF4 Ti4600 to a crawl..... (then again, a few 13,000 polygon meshes with 2048x2048 textures in an engine that wasn't really designed to handle them would bring yours to a crawl too...)

btw, Fred 2 will crash if you have modified tables for FS2_Open installed. You will have to use Fred2_Open to muck with them or make new ones.

R3 system requirements aren't a joke. You're gonna need that HTL capable video card with at least 64 MB memory and DX 8.1 support if you want to run TBP with best visual quality. GF4 MX isn't gonna cut it unless you play with some graphical features turned off. :)

The min specs mentioned are truly min specs, I'd be amazed if a computer that old can even run TBP with all new features turned off.

    Hello Mr Fury,

No joke, i know its no joke......especially when it comes to system specs.

I don't know what i was on by saying you guys are funny.
Now i know how serious this is, I will not make that mistake again.

I will though let you know how R3 runs on my system.
