BOINC (SETI@Home, Predictor@Home)

Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
If you are running BOINC (http://boinc.berkeley.edu):

The old Seti@Home (setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu) team: "Babylon 5 Into the Fire"
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=30888

I have also just created a B5 team for Predictor@Home(predictor.scripps.edu) since Seti doesn't have enough work units for all it's members. Named: "Babylon 5 - Firstones"
http://predictor.scripps.edu/team_display.php?teamid=529

Anyone running BOINC and in Predictor@Home come join it :)

I can't wait for more projects to start using BOINC - some of the math ones that are exploring it look neat!

SETI Classic still works while SETI Boinc is pulling itself back together :)

And I considered joining Predictor, but it won't let me at the moment :(

Sorry, I'm already in ATS team with my 1650+ WUs.
• MundaneMundane Elite Ranger
Running the United Devices agent here already.
• I've got the old Seti running 20/7, mayhap I'll get the new one and join you. :)
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Well...

Unfortunately Seti is having server problems with their Boinc server...hope they get it fixed soon. Their RAID array crashed...
• MundaneMundane Elite Ranger
The guy behind the BOINC stuff was having a presentation at CERN a few months ago, was really interesting.

Update:

http://www.Climateprediction.net now is running a BOINC client - look under "My CP" on the side bar to sign up.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
And here's the team! :)

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/team_display.php?teamid=263

BTW: ClimatePredictor@Home needs version 4.0. Becuase Berkley's Boinc server farm is down, you can't get it right now...

Note that SETI is also upgrading to version 4, but Predictor hasn't done so yet (it will be in the next few days). I have heard that it will wipe out all existing work units that are unprocessed when it upgrades, as the work units are not compatible with the new version.

Couple things today:

1: New @Home project is up - Cern Supercollider design - LHC@Home - http://athome.web.cern.ch/athome/

Here is the B5 team: http://lhcathome.cern.ch/team_display.php?teamid=34

2: Climate Predictor is screwed up methinks. I can't seem to get a valid download from them.

3: BOINC 4.05 crashes on Win9x/ME. Fix (BOINC 4.06) should be up soon. You should get this fix even for Win2k/XP since it fixes several major issues that can cause system instability even on the more stable Windows OS's.

Well, I've rejoined the SETI project (since I couldn't remember my old account info), but it doesn't seem to be doing a hell of a lot yet. I can't get into the predictor one for a couple of weeks because they're not accepting new accounts yet, so I guess I'll join when they do again.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Yeah...

SETI has problems. They have both server problems and "too many people wanting work units and not enough work units" problems. Here you really feel like a guinea pig with all their problems!

Predictor is down while they evaluate the beta project (last couple months) and upgrade their project to run BOINC 4.x. This project is extremely stable and well run. This is part of why they are down for so long on this update - they want to work all the bugs out before they come back up! ;)

ClimatePredictor I gave up on...I never could get a download to actually work!

Cern is new and they have closed their signup until they finish their Beta test. I got in before they closed :)
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
I just missed the CERN beta, so I have nothing to work on. :) Remind me when something is working again and I'll start running the client again.
• PhiPhi <font color=#FF0000>C</font><font color=#FF9900>o</font><font color=#FFFF00>l</font><font color=#00F
Back to classic...

• MundaneMundane Elite Ranger
Dont feel like doing the CERN stuff, already doing 10hours of work units each day (that is, 10 hours of working hours) at CERN.... :P
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
LHC@Home (Cern) has added another 1000 to the Beta - go sign up before it fills again! http://lhcathome.cern.ch
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
SETI seems to be working again now, too. It's finally downloading something to work on.
• PhiPhi <font color=#FF0000>C</font><font color=#FF9900>o</font><font color=#FFFF00>l</font><font color=#00F
Account number 1111 on CERN :D

Anyone know how to change the resource share after the intitial sign in?

EDIT: nm, found it.

I reacently joined Climate Predictor and after looking into their FAQ I discovered that the gigantic work units are indeed not a mistake. They really are supposed to take weeks, while updating your credit every 6 hours or so. Kinda interesting to watch at times, since the weather system develops continuously :)

• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
I think I will try climate predictor again...when it first came out it was a buggy download - never could get their app to download right.

Lets see if it downloads correctly now :)
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
My LHC one has been downloading nothing for weeks now. It says it's downloading, but it doesn't download anything.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Well - LHC was out of work most of last week. They have work now...

Climate Predictor works for me now BTW.
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
This is since before I went away.
• PhiPhi <font color=#FF0000>C</font><font color=#FF9900>o</font><font color=#FFFF00>l</font><font color=#00F
Odd...maybe it's a glich in their linuxing interfacy thing. To put it technically ;)

• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
On the windows client?
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
You can always try resetting the project. And if that fails...detach and reattach.
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
How do I reset a project?
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Right click the project in the Project tab :)
• PhiPhi <font color=#FF0000>C</font><font color=#FF9900>o</font><font color=#FFFF00>l</font><font color=#00F
Oops, thought you were running it on linux. Yeah, hopefully resetting or detatch/reatach should work.

• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Biggles mentioned he got it working by resetting in IRC
