really as far as I can see abandonware is software that either has no remaining fiscal value or sentimental value to those who made it or those same people who made it have a scorched earth policy.
any of those reasons are what makes former owners/developers litigious...
no-one likes to see someone else profit from thier work...
and some people get very passionate about things they did in the past...
and some people bear malice and grudges to the grave...
There is also apathy, preservation of ones own skin by not scratching at old corporate wounds, pride...
In ITF's case, no-one... absolutely no-one knows where Seirra/Havas sits in reference to the above pidgeon holes. They may be sitting in several at once.
No entreaty by anyone so far has even has even been graced by an answer.
Perhaps that would change if the persons/person who approached them had very deep pockets.
at this point the key issue is the footage shot for the game. Basically everything else is replacable. It doesnt really fall easily into the category of traditonal abandonware.
Put it this way, if a company somehow managed to secure said footage and proceeded to plug it into a new game...without asking for a release first...
would the sleeping giant that is Sierra awaken to wreak its terrible wrath ?
