Alien vs Predator - Why do people like this movie?

Really interested in knowing since it hit #1 of box office right away. What do people who like this / this type of movie see in these movies? Scariness? "Story"? Or?

Oh wello, at least it was so bad it was funny. Really funny. So much so that I got SHH-ed at a few times too many.
As for why people go to see it in the first place...
It's a movie about two HUGELY Successful franchises. You've got Aliens, which almost created the modern scifi horror genre, and predator, which pit an intelligent alien hunter against skilled humans in what is simply one of the cooler horror/thriller franchises ever to come from film :D
the idea sprung into action during Predator 2, when Danny Glover walks into the trophy room of the Predator ship on the right had side there was an alien skull.
from that came the AvP comic books, and from that the AvP games.
But anyway, to answer your question, there was no pre-screening for anyone, press included, so reviews of how shitty a PG-13 movie sequel of 5 R rated movies could be.
The real test is next weekend. Ticket sales for movies that are not well received tend to drop sharply the week AFTER opening weekend.
and the ending was just stupid.
Still, I DO like the idea of using an alien head as a sheild. :D

The black girl is allied with the last surviving Predator, together they kill the queen, but the predetor is killed in the process.
Other predators arrive from the ship, take him back as a hero of some sort, give the girl a spear.
cut to ship leaving, focus on dead predetor, left alone for whatever reason, and a chest burster pops out.
See what I mean? Stupid.
Is it just me or has there been a lack of good scifi-movies latly... Except Pitch Black 2 , Startrek 10 and SW ep 2

It was only a matinee showing! But I was really hoping for more laughs the second time around.
here's some fun things I noticed this time...

Apparently, being 2000ft. directly above the pyramid means needing to drill a 30 degree hole in the ice to get to it.
The alien count is a bit abnormal. While I'm not 100% positive of the tally, I believe there's three surplus aliens (or a defitic of three hosts).
The whole alien skull as a shield thing is rally weird. I mean, the skull wasn't gutten, and was filled with acid blood-soaked brains and other aliien organs. Also, that Predator is quite the spaceMacgyver. Too bad he didn't have his trusty roll of duct tape.
If there's one gigantic problem with this movie, it's that everyone is dead/going to die. Lex was left on the surface of antarctica with a thin long sleeve shirt and some halftracks that somehow survived the explosion of the city. I'm not really sure why they would be so unnecessarily far away, but they were.
As was brought to my attention by some friends, why were the predators killing those humans on the surface? If it truly was their intention to let the humans become hosts for aliens, wouldn't letting more get down there provide more possibile combat scenarios?
Why did only two people ever fire their guns? I mean, guy in cave was fending off face huggers and fired a grand total fo 12 rounds from his pistol, and guy on surface used his machine gun to anger a predator, shortly being slaughtered in the moments following.
Speaking of guns, anybody ehre a better source of information on pistols that can fire *13* rounds? Lex killed the italian guy with it, too. That would be 12 rounds used to rip apart face huggers, and 1 used to kill italian guy.
There was also some strange urge to use flares instead of flashlights where flashlights would be effective, and flashlights where flares would be effective, though I"ll let the movie win there. It's supposed to be dramatic.
And there is still that mystery of where the hell those guys got all those guns from. One scene, they had srta filled bags...next scene, they had the same bags, untouched, and huge boxes with big, assemled guns in them.
Then there's the numerous armageddon-ish scenes and stuff. Gah.
You know, I think that the real victor of this movie were the Aliens. Of all the groups, they were no worse off than the rest. Humans are all dead, with the only survivor about to freeze to death in the fake snow. Predaotrs lost three of their own, and worse, now have a pred-alien aboard their sinister looking space ship thingy. they're all going to die now because they're probably innept, and will continue being innept in the sequel. Aliens started with a queen...and ended with a queen. She was frozen in the beginning, and frozen in the end. Still alive, but at the bottom of the ocean. Too bad they can swim.
I was under the impression that compasses don't like the south pole due to strong electromagnetic fields. Good to know a cheap watch-compass can resolve all that.
come on...seriously...that explosion sequence was ripped right from die hard.

I was unaware corporations continaully monitored the barren wastelands of Antarctica with ultra-sensitive thermal imaging satellites strong enough to pick up a teeny change in heat 2000 ft deep in ice. In fact, I'd be sure that the said 2000 ft. of ie would be good enought o make such blooms impossible. But in the interest of fairness, I will let this slide.

Yep, I can only agree.
I wish the starwars movies would concentrate on Obi-Wan (prequels) and Han (original trilogy).
With the original trilogy, it becomes far more difficult, having to take all the other character interactions into account. Edits become a lot more complex, as inequal characters need to be promoted or demoted, and that's tough with limited dialogue.
Average clip size prior to Brady Bill were on average 11-15 rounds, again with the exception of glocks holding a massive 17 round clip.
just an FYI on the Brady Bill. In order for a weapon to be classified as an assult weapon it must meet 2 of the following 5 items:
- magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds
- muzzle flash supressor
- collapsable stock
- bayonet lug
- fire in an autmoatic mode
its really quite stupid, and again there are ways around that, especially for collectors of millitary weapons.
Also the Brady Bill expires next month and there hasnt been anything brought up to replace it yet, knowing our government though with the current restrictions on personel freedoms something worse will come along.

The only good thing in that movie was the music...
I only ever liked one film with sam neill (thats his name right?), and thats Arthur (the BBC miniseries)
