Good Lord...

So much for Australian independence...

Mind you, I'm not too surprised, not after seeing how certain government-owned railways there have been f***ed over by less-than-sensible reorganization schemes. I had hoped that Australian politics/government wasn't falling victim to the same syndrome of industrial-strength stupidity that has plagued our own federal and many state and local governments here in the U.S.; unfortunately, that's looking more like a forlorn hope at best.:(

..and people call me nuts when I say I want to start my own nation in international waters...

...and alot of Americans wonder why I get my back up about some aspects of the USA

Well, that's just what this globalisation is, "harmonizing" everything under control of big corporations.

But it's not what globalization should be :(

Speaking of which, there was a recent forum about reducing or removing agricultural subsidies (most of which are in the US and Canada). Basically the 3rd world got together and threw the usual arguments about the benefits of globalization back at the 1st world. I'm sad to say that Canada was the only one against getting rid of the subsidies...

If they want to harmonize things, why aren't Australians protected by "fair use" provisions, whatever those are.

If not for that, I don't see why harmonizing IP laws is such a big deal. Then again, I don't know what DMCA laws are aside from laws protecting IP.

That's very interesting. I guess the Canadians are full of surprises.

Any info on this, by the way? I want to do some research on it. Canada must've had a good reason for their decision. Unlike a lot of hippies, I don't automatically think Western countries do things like this for the sake of being evil or oppressive or anything else like that.

The DMCA is more a law protecting huge corporations' profits than anything else.
