I guess I'm taking the authors intent too seriously, but I'm sorry, that map is wrong. Not only does it violate the spirit of Tolkien who worked hard to avoid political inferences in his tales, but misses the mark on the statement it is trying to make.

I believe the author is trying to insinuate that the Democrats, activists and the unions, are protecting common person from the evil forces of Bush and the GOP. In is not my opinion that this is the case, nor do I believe that somehow the GOP and conservatives are protecting the common man from the breakdown of society.

In the end the common person is caught in the middle, in the crossfire of the political war. Some times he is the benefactor of this struggle, due to the conflict and compromise nature of the US government, but more often he is a victim, falling prey to the lust for power from both sides, who have little regard for those which government is meant to serve.

I think whomever the mapmaker was, put little effort into understanding the statement he/she was trying to make, allowing rational thought to give way to propaganda.

Freejack: I don't agree with a number of the placements on that plot. I specifically don't agree that any group should be placed in Mordor. Nor do I agree that "Common People" should be the same color as Democrats - common people are split between the parties.

    Freejack: Well said.

RC: Dead on. Most Americans don't even bother to vote anymore, and the ones who do are just as likely to vote for one party's candidates as the other's (or they may even vote for candidates from two or more parties at the same time - but not for the same office, of course;) ); associating the "common people" with a given political party (or any other group) shows just how ignorant this character really is.
