Anyone here know anyone high up the food chain in the aerospace industry ?

Not I. My dad flies, though.
  • croxiscroxis I am the walrus
If I flap hard enough I could fly

I've seen eagles on several occasions, they're pretty high up in the food chain as far as aeronautics are concerned.

Certainly higher than most of the aeronautical creatures we get around here, with the exception of one bunch of people over in mechanical engineering.

For what purpose? If it's for co-op work, you might want to consider widening your search to anything involving fluid mechanics. If it's for a post-college career...you might want to consider the same. Realize I was an aerospace major as an undergrad and pretty much the same for grad school, and I ended up as an engineer working in Electric Boat's valve group. Don't pigeon-hole yourself into the aerospace industry and be sure to get some co-op experience, because the industry isn't in that good a shape for new hires.

If you're looking for co-op work, some companies are only taking on co-ops/summer hires if they're going to be working there for four months or more. If it is co-op work, you might want to consider Electric Boat in Groton, CT. If you'd be working in my department, I could give you a summary of each group and its supervisor, but I'd prefer to give out that info in a private IM.

If you're talking about something else, ignore my response.

I suspect SB is more looking for someone to throw ideas at.

    Wasn't that CaryN's job?

I also doubt SB is looking for work outside Australia....

    yeah... I have an idea.

In fact John do you have any problem with signing an NDA ?

you may be a good person to ask about the feasibility of the concept

I suspect it might not be a good idea for me to answer any advanced questions if I want to keep my job and freedom, and I'm guessing an NDA might be the best thing for me to sign while at my current job, especially if they decide to upgrade my security clearance another step.

Just as an FYI though, my primary fields of research were computational fluid dynamics, chaos theory and propulsion systems and now work on valve designs. Two publications and presentation of the results at conferences in Washington, DC and Phoenix, AZ.

Sorry, but good luck. Yeah - I have to be that careful.

Heh. Thanks - I can see that now, and the company can't hire non-citizens so that answers my question rather quickly :)

sigh... I hate this particular catch 22.

If I want to maintain patentability of a certain concept or invention I need signed documented proof that the idea remained confidential in all my discussions about it, prior to patenting.

Then when you take said paper to people likely to be able to help you work on the idea, they wont sign, because they may be working on something similar and they fear being sued by you for breach of confidentality.

So I sit here coming up with ideas 24/7 and 99/100 times all I can do is ask myself if they're a good idea before I splash out on a proper biding patent costing $3000 USD, (and thats only basic really).

I can flat out ask you a couple things John. Do you know much about laser guidance ? Paveway or something similar, laser guidance in general ?

    Unfortunately, no.
