is ANYONE planning on buying it?
Myself, I expect it to be MUCH worse then painkiller, soo, I'll wait for a number of level headed reviews before buying it. (If I do at all)

It would be a very shiny waste of money for me, I think. I don't even think the graphics are that great. The engine is amazing, but everything looks like it's made out of plastic. I'll wait for the first Raven game using the engine.
Hopefully something more Outcast than Academy.
I played the leaked alpha test months ago, and I must say I was impressed. Its one of those games that really puts you at the edge of your seat. Its fascinating to play a game like that, just for the experience.
Also, its a bit of a thriller, and it makes you peek around corners more than just run around them. It will give you a bit of a scare.
Ill post a more in depth review once I have the full version, but this is one Im waiting for.
Oh, yeah, here's hoping that KOTOR 3 will be done in the Doom engine. :D
actually yes I am planning on buying it. I preordered it months ago.

Now THAT is what I want to hear. I want to shit myself when I play this game... :)
NVidia = OpenGL = Doom3
ATI = DirectX = HalfLife2
of course, ATI can still run Doom3 no problems. just not at 100+ FPS. :D
but nowadays OpenGl is as graphics API for (windows) games almost non-existent (the only ones that use it seem to be the id games).
and i think a X800 Pro (which i'll probably buy) should perform well enough ;)
I'll get it, as soon as i have a new graphicsboard... (my 9700 pro died on my a few weeks ago :( )
I had the same thing happen to me with my Ti 4600 last week, and I just moved into a new appartment so I'm not going to be able to afford a card of quallity until like september - october.

As far as the silent teleport thing, It was just the alpha. And it was still scary as hell when things jumped out of shadows even in front of you. It is supposed to be a horror game, not an action game like the original.
Oh, and yes, I am planing on buying, when I can run it again.
Also, where did you see that it had gone gold? I've heard of the rumored August 3rd release date, but I havn't found anything that talks about it going gold (Which would pretty much confirm August.)

You know, you have some funny ideas about graphics APIs and chipset makers.
Thanks (though i allready know that ;) )

I bet that there will be lot of games using graphich engine of this.

What do you mean?
NVidia has ALWAYS topped ATI when it comes to OpenGL. Or conversly, ATI just has horrible OpenGL coding. Often, NVidia cards are twice as fast over ATI cards in OpenGL.
Doom 3 = OpenGL, and a nice contract with NVidia. So not only does NVidia corner the OpenGL market, they have been able to optimize their cards for Doom3.
ATI, on the other hand, just blows NVidia out of the water with D3D. HL2 = D3D. We already know HL2 runs horribly on most NVidia cards (Read: FX series) and flys on ATI. This, HL2 = ATI.
IMO there are still there are games that are DirectX and runs better on Nvidia cards because some of the games are optimised for them.
And then I should write alot of other comments here, but it's so freakin hot here that I'll leave it till next time.
60*F is perfect ...102*F is hot....
On the other hand, DirectX is actually very balanced and works equally well on both ATi and NVIDIA cards (note that one chip from a maker doesn't qualify as their entire product range). HL2 may happen to work better on ATi cards, but HL2 isn't the only DirectX game in the world.
You also need to take into account the quality of the drivers each manufacturer provides for each API. If ATi doesn't put as much effort into their OpenGL drivers as their DirectX ones, their OpenGL performance won't be as good. Same for NVIDIA.
If you want to play Doom3 at the best FPS possible. you buy NVidia
if you want to play HL2 at the best FPS possible, you buy ATI.
so thus, my statement stands. :)
The NVidia FX series still excelled in OpenGL. NVidia just chose to totally ignore the standard paths for D3D.
so, the 5900 Ultra should look just as good as a 9800 pro in D3. Provided NVidia doesn't mess with the drivers and make special "optimizations" for any file named "Doom3.exe" :D
If your going to stand there and tell me you can tell a difference between my nvidia at 90fps and an ati 102fps your fucking nuts, you cant tell a diff at that resalution.
